This is where the hard work at home pays off, you have to work the leg hair so it pops and stays up when you brush it. Make sure you do a good dye job at home. Our fair is a " blow and go" no product at all, you can tell the calves that were worked on at home.

We just did our first "no fit" division at our County Fair.  We showed one in the Fit division and one No Fit.

First off, find out EXACTLY what "no fit" means at your show.  I was under the impression it meant that we could not put anything on the steer.  After asking, I found out that it meant NO ADHESIVE.  That's it......we could put anything in his hair we wanted, as long as we didn't use any glue.

If I would have found that we couldn't foam, I would have put "hair putty" in his legs the day before the show...maybe even at home.  As long as you don't soap it or put hot water on it, it will stay there.  Then the lower leg hair would have stayed up.  I know that some people will say that is cheating, and maybe it is...I don't know.

I guess it comes down to the steer anyway.  He looked better fit than 3/4 of the fit steers did, and that is really due to the work that went into him at home.  VC is probably giving you the best advice...get to brushing.

Start preparing weeks before, with a rice root and conditioning them well.  On show day, its like everyone has said scotch comb and rice root legs and light oil the body.

Local county went to blow and go.....  I think the non steer jocks thought it would bring the steer jocks back to the pack but actually it worked the other way.....  The folks that put in the time to train hair at home really stood out,    A couple calves had great hair that wasn't trained and they were brought back to the pack some, but the kids that put in the time at home to train the hair were rewarded......    Some you would have almost thought were fitted they looked so good.

when we do blow and go shows, we do just what the name implies. We literally blow and comb the hair for about 45 minutes with the occasional coating of pink oil or final bloom. revive also helps to "thicken" the hair when your blowing. The more you blow, the more the hair will fluff. Good luck and have fun!
