New 2011 EBY Maverick Trailer Problems

About a month ago we purchased a new 2011 EBY trailer from EBY Iowa, as we live in North Central Illinois.

Shortly after we purchased it / took delivery, I noticed that it leaked in the nose area.  What we thought was a dry storange area.
   When I called and complained I was told that EBY doesn't make livestock trailers to be dry only horse LQ.
        Went to our first show since purchase and spoke to several people with EBY trailers, they told us theirs were dry.

Just before going to show we tried to remove the plexy panels and they would not slide back far enogh to come out of track.  Finally had to break them to get them out.

Had read on serveal diffent posting sites that EBY were among the best prior to buying.  Begining to wonder.  

Seems to be difficult to get service, as they only have a few dealers.

Anyone else with EBY traiiler problems.

I don't know where your from but call  Rodoc Leasing from Delphos Ohio and they should be able to help you very good people to work with. They are the largest trailer dealer I know of.

Curious where are you from. I know of family that just purchased an Eby trailer as well, I have not heard of them having trouble. Let me know and I will check with them.

We have a 2011 Eby Ruff Neck, and have had no problems whatsoever.  No leaks in the nose. It's a great trailer, in my opinion, and after having it, I wouldn't buy anything else.

When the factory rep delivered it (last November), he warned me that the Plexiglas expands in warm weather, and that it will get stuck if you leave it in during the summer.  He said it was easy to trim if you wanted it to fit right in the summer, but then it would be loose in the winter.  That would be true of any trailer with Plexiglas, not just Eby.  I use the Plexiglas in the winter only, but it would be easy enough to buy another set of panels and cut them to fit in the summer.

Most of our friends around here that show pull Ebys, and the feedback I got on them was extremely positive, which was the reason I bought one.    One had a minor issue (broken latch that holds the cut gate open) , and the factory in Iowa took care of it, no problem. My factory rep is here in Kansas, but works out of the Iowa office.  His name is Stan Kolstad, (785) 499-5522, maybe he could help you.

My first question...Is the goose actually leaking or is it building up condensation and everything is getting wet? if you have your trailer sealed up water will condense in there EVERY day and stuff will be soaked.

2nd..... try some clear silicone many trailer dealers will silicone all the non welded joints  esp on steel trailers.... My EBY has stainless panals on the nose that are rivited on and the seams are caulked to seal them up!

While we don't own an eby, there is another spot to check for leaks.  Look on top of the trailer where the roof rail meets the top roof skin...Featherlite has a one piece roof skin, and where it attaches to the roof rail, they use a black rubber compound to cover that seam.  The black rubber will expand and contract with the weather, and might be exposing part of a seam somewhere to allow water to work it's way in.  Some trailers may use 2 or 3 sheets on that roof skin, so there may be multiple seams to check.  Especially on a stock trailer, I don't think you can keep them completely dry from the elements.  Good luck...

Plexiglass doesn't expand, it's the trailer itself.

Hello everyone

I’m Steve Rittenhouse, a salesman for Eby.  Customers have known us for years for building a quality trailer and even more, for standing behind our product.  When I saw this thread on Steer Planet, I alerted Travis Eby right away.  As expected, he told me to find out who the customer was, and then to try to get his problem solved.

As a point of reference, even though most of our trailer noses stay fairly dry, we do not guarantee them to be “water tight” As one poster mentioned, trailers that are closed up tight will get condensation inside the roof and create wet spots in the nose.  Nevertheless, if there is a severe leak, we will take action through our customer satisfaction policy to take care of a customer’s concerns.

As for the plexiglass, it is true that the panels will expand in the hot summer days.  We take this into account when we fit them from new, but sometimes, we miss-cut, or it just gets so hot that they expand and jam up.  Two easy fixes are to either spray them with cool hose water, or wait until the evening to get them out.  I have even heard of customers who simply spun their trailer around to the shady side, and the panels came out after they cooled down.  Once again, if we miscut the panels we will either trim them for you at our shop, or send you replacement plexiglass for the ones you had to break. No problem.

I would recommend that you contact your dealer or salesman and have them contact our warranty department.  If you don’t get directed to the right place, then contact me personally, and I will help you get to the right place to address your concerns.

This is exactly why I own an EBY.  I personally bought mine from Steve himself.  He did everything we had agreed upon and is a man of his word.  Nice to see a great representative of EBY weigh in.
