Newborn Help!

Help is needed. I had a calf yesterday morning that has did a 360 in last 24 hours. Yesterday the calf nursed well and acted healthy however this morning, it laid around like a bump on a log and did not act as if it had the strength to get up and nurse. We called the vet out and she gave him some antibiotics, booster shot, and some vit. D. We warmed the calf throughout the day. The calf acted not interested in nursing at all, wont suck a finger, bottle, or mothers teat so we tubed it this morning and evening. Any suggestions or experiences that you could provide to get this guy going as he is one cool bull calf and I would hate to loose him. Thanks.

sounds like your doing what needs to be done.  you might try giving him some B vitamins to improve his energy levels.  just a thought hope it helps.  good luck to ya!

raising bottle dairy bull calves we have had a few that were like that, we found if we stood over them inbetween our legs they were more willing to take a bottle. We use a product called BEEF Nutri-Drench @ 1oz. per 100 wt. every 8 hours to weak calves with success. It is a rich nutrition supplement. Can be purchased at TSC stores.

That's great!  I know we had a problem with a some calves just like that a few years back.  We found out the benefits of a vitamin B shot.
