I am not positive that there is actually a relation between Red being temporarily gone from SP, and some of the things that have been happening on here, but it seems awful coincidental. I have noticed several posts on here lately that have contained negativity and personal attacks on others. I very rarely even look at the other message boards and NEVER post on them. The reason being, that too much negativity and personal attacking is dealt with. I absolutely love getting on SP because of the "family" type atmosphere that many have tried so hard to create, however it seems that we sometimes forget this. I am not saying names or calling anyone out inparticular. I am not making this post as an attack on anyone, just thought that maybe we should all consider the effects of our statements before making them.
Thanks

(argue)    I think everyone needs to "chill" a little, maybe the summer heat is getting to everyone and that is why we are having some negative reactions to some of the posts the last few days.  When Red gets back on here I think she will straighten everyone out!  We miss ya Red.....

I guess we depend on Red to much on here.  There are other moderators even an owner that could regulate the board also.  I'm not sure she's in a big hurry to come back.  She's tired (physically) and is enjoying the break from what I get from her.

Hi all!
Yes, I am still around and I still do my best to check posts daily.  I have had an extremely busy summer this year and have not been able to post much.

I try really hard not to get to uptight about opposing opinions......I have been, in the past, a champion for those who have been the victims of "narrow minds".

If you feel there is a problem with a particular post or you feel as though someone is picking on you, PM me.  I will do the best I can.

Red and I visited at Junior National.  She has no intention of creating TURMOIL.  She is just tired and would like to take a break.  Let's not speculate.  We all love and appreciate Red, so let's not hang a guilt trip on her, she does not deserve it!

Keep on discussing, keep on going.      As ever, Mary aka "cowz"

Mary,
Throwing Red under the bus was definately not my goal. I understand that she is very drained, I try to talk to her online as often as I can off of SP just to make sure she is still movin along. I appreciate what she does as much as everyone. I guess I thought it was just a coincidence, that when she is gone some people do not know how to be respectful. I for one consider her sort of a "den mother" when it comes to SP. She may not have wanted it to be like that, but it is not a bad thing, she got the image, in my opinion, because of her kind heart and acceptance for others. Red always does what she can to keep ALL of us positive. Not saying she caused some to act the way they do, just that she is usually able to add some input that shows people there are bigger things in the world to worry about.  (clapping)

Fact: the Planet just isn't the same or as fun without Red.
Fact: She doesn't get paid for her work here, but her work here is priceless.
Fact: We all expect her to be the "Mother Hen," but we all need to help her by playing nice.

Solution: Find a way to pay her. (I doubt we can afford what she is worth!)

I sure hope this website does not turn into a website where people cannot accept a little constructive criticism.  We teach the children to accept criticism every time they walk into the ring, because for the most part the judge is not going to give them nothing but praise for their project.  Instead he will tell them what is wrong with it.  Maybe I am wrong though and we should make this forum or the livestock industry like we do youth sports these days.  No one should keep score.  We should go to a cattle show and everyone gets a participation ribbon and there are no winners, because that would mean there would be some losers as well.
The majority of people posting on here are adults.  I have seen very few if any mean spirited attacks on anyone.  I would like to think two adults can talk about a particular subject and not have been all sunshine and rainbows about it.  Everyone is going to have an opinion and no one is going to agree with everyone.  If you don't then get tough and don't let it bother you so much.  I know people in real life that cannot take any negativity and they are what you would call very mediocre in everything they do.  The people that strive to do great things such as business and industry leaders deal with negativity every day, and its how they handle such that has got them to the position that they are at today.  If someone has a valid point then learn from it, if not then ignore it and go on.

Quinton,  If I sounded harsh, I apologize.  I did not imply that you are throwing Red under the bus.  Lets just give her a respectful, well deserved break.  I think she wants to be free of the expectation that she has to be the referee for every little quibble.
I am sure she will be back very soon.

When it comes to pictures in say a cattle catalog I try not to even look at them. A good photographer can make a so-so calf look good. So many times I have seen a calf that I like the photo of and then when I got to sale he was completely different. It is cool to look at photos but they are only a image of one day in a certain light at a certain angle. All photos should be taken with a grain of salt in my goofy opinion. I could make myself look like Bert Reynolds with the right light...right angle... and enough...well maybe not. ;D

What he said!!

I dont think red being gone is the reason for any of this. Even when she is around we still have arguments, but when something gets out of hand she fixes it. When red is gone that is everyones excuse for things getting out of hand. I think all these post about red being gone, and red being gone makes everything go haywire,  make her feel bad about taking time to her self. She needs rest just like everyone else, She doesnt get paid for what she does here, so what differnce does it make if she takes a few days off. I think everyone on here depends on red WAY to much! She is a great person, and dosent need all the added stress that SP puts on her.

We are all big kids now, so I think we dont need to be dependent on one person to make this board stay civil. Have a good day!

I find it funny.....those that are the first to point fingers, offering their "opinion" are often the first that can not handle "opinions" that differ from their own.
kysteer: there is a difference between constructive critisism and accusing someone of doing an unethical thing. Critisism tries to help another improve something they are doing.....accusing is simply telling a person they are doing something illegal, unethical or immoral.
I have been on the receiving end of some pretty nasty "constructive critisism". None of it was offered in a helpful way. It was offered only to hurt and demean, and that is exactly what it did. But just like high school, I decided that I was not going to let the bullies dictate what I was going to do, or try and accomplish. I guess I must have elephant skin (for those that don't know, it is almost inpentratable)
Rainbows and sunshine, have a place, but I agree that when someone ask for an opinion both the good and bad should be shared and accepted. Some do not agree with that, but I happen to. Some think there are a lot of "grey areas", I do not.
red has taken it upon herself to be the "mother hen" to a bunch of children she has never, nor probably will ever, meet. To me, that is like corralling a bunch of fleas on a hairy dog. A challenge that is fun to take on, but tiring, thankless, and a job that can not ever be accomplished. Not everyone will be happy, not everyone will agree. And naturally, some will like others, some never will.
SP is not red, nor is red SP (she said it, not me) I can name several "noteries" that are no longer with SP for one reason or another. SP survived and it will.
That being said, just remember, what goes around, comes around and don't be surprised if you butt doesn't get stung somewhere down the road.

I do not believe the intent of this topic was for everybody to get worked up again!!

Show season is now upon us and if anything, we need to be a support system for each other!!!!

Red has been watching, she does care, but just needs a stress reduction break.

I am,at minimum, a little surprised at the comments that this thread has caused. Obviously there are some who have some unhealed wounds from past wars, that are quick to be reopened, as I cannot see anything that has been said that would result in some of these comments. I think everyone needs to take 10 deep breaths and CHILL OUT for a few minutes!!!! There will always be issues that will create some disagreement between people on this board. They will always  be some comments that rub each of the wrong way from time to time. That is called LIFE.

I see nothing wrong with disagreement as long as it is kept civil. I see nothing wrong with posting your disagreement to another person's posting, providing it is not done in a belittling attitude. That is what a good debate is generated from. As I have said on here before, this board would probably die a quick and uneventful death if we all agreed on every topic and everyone was afraid to say what they believe in. Hopefully it will never come to that. Hopefully, we are all "mature" enough that we do not need Red, or any other  moderator to police us ( and that goes for all of us, no matter how old we are.)
Red has asked for some time to rest and I hope we will all give her all the time she wants and needs. I think we all appreciate her input on SP but we also need to appreciate her health and her desire to get the rest she needs. Red, take all the time you need, and don't even think about comi ng back to SP until you feel it is the right time.

Whatever happened to talking about cattle as our primary goal on this site??  I agree with Justintime, everyone just needs to chill out, act like adults, and quit being so sensitive.  If you can't say something good to someone at least count to three or, better yet, wait overnight to send them your response.  Its amazing sometimes how different your post might look 24 hours later!!  Let's quit quibbling with one another over petty things and start talking cattle again!!  Like the fly said to the bird when he fell into the cowpie---"it looks like we're all in this together"!!  Let's make the best of it!!

For heavens sakes everyone.  Red has weaned calves, getting them broke, showing them to prospective buyers, going to different dr. appointments ect.  She's making sure all this doesn't overwhelm her and get her health poor again.  She's doing other things that she loves also like working in her beautiful gardens.  It's too nice outside to stay inside in front of her computer.  Let her take her break.  She said she'd be back this week sometime.  Don't give her a guilt trip where she'll quit.

I've only seen one post that was out of hand.  SRU and Jason could have stopped it too not just cowz and Red.  Let's just get back to being the planet we all love and talk cattle and kids!
