North central Pennsylvania

We are going to be in North Central Pennsylvania for just over a week.  Is there any thing or place that needs to be seen between Oklahoma and Pennsylvania or while we are there?

I would definitely stop in St. Louis and watch the Cardinals play if they're in town.  My wife likes to stop at all the quilt shops along the way, wherever we're going.  I hope no one in your family has that disease.  I don't know your route, but I enjoyed a visit to Gettysburg years ago.

I would love to stop and watch a game but the rest of the family that is left at home may revolt.  I am going to Northern Pennsylvania. Ryan qualified to go shoot in an international shooting contest so we will be there 10 days.  We will have some free time everyday but just not sure how much.  I hope to get time to go to Gettysburg.  My son really wants to see it and he his quite the history buff. We may also try and run up to Niagara Falls as I was told we would be within 3 hours.  Just looking for other things to do or see between here and there.

Regarding Gettysburg... when we visited a few years ago they had some guys who understood the history that would drive your car on a tour and tell you about the sites... It was 50 bucks and was worth 10 times that... they know the history and bring it to life for you..

I learned history lessons there that I still clearly remember

If you guys can get to DC .. please walk the monuments ... just stand for a few minutes in the Jefferson memorial and read his writings... he was really smart

The subway system in DC really works and makes access easy

in Virginia the Shanandoah scenic byway is really pretty ... but it will be slow... don't plan to much of that

you will make memories this trip for a lifetime

The Amish country in Lancaster PA is beautiful and worth checking out. Hershey park is also worth a stop. If you are bringing a trailer, I have a cow in stillwater I need to get home to wv!  (lol)

You might want to stop at cedar point in sandusky ohio. It is the greatest amusement park on earth. Right on lake erie so it has Alot of beach and resort feel. It is famous for its wicked roller coasters. It is really something everyone most experience at least once. Enjoy your trip.

As a resident of Ohio I second the Cedar Point mention. Insane roller coasters. I play golf right by Niagra Falls every summer. If you've never seen it, it's well worth the trip.

 

[Maines in PA]

That part of Pennsylvania is not highly populated but you'll see some upland farm country around Mansfield and Liberty. Gettysburg and the Amish Country will be several hours away. So if you do those, it would probably be best to plan those stops on the way there or on the way back. The Pine Creek Gorge might be a good day trip while you're there and you won't be far from some of the most remote country Pennsylvania has to offer. Lots of hiking opportunities. It's pretty country but not exactly the metropolis most folks envision when they think of Pennsylvania. Lots of opportunities to hit a deer in the mornings and evenings, so keep your eyes peeled!

It would not be very fair to the rest of the family if we took in a theme park.  We will have a few hours each day for exploring close to Mansfield.  Is there any one place to eat or a must see close to Mansfield?

I can't tell you what to do but I think a one day stop at cedar point would be worth your time. It is really something everyone should experience once in their lives.  As far as not being fair, my parents taught me early in life that life is not fair. You asked for recommendations and I am telling you cedar point may be a once in a lifetime chance. Well worth the time and the money. Crazy rollercoasters. You would have a blast unless you don't like rollercoasters or heights. They have incredible rides. Hope you enjoy your trip.
