Hmm Aj and tgcc I guess i have a closed herd just bringing in bulls..... news to me

The purpose of a closed herd (IMHO) is to prevent in influx of outside pathogens - ie keep disease out of your herd - a "real" closed herd means that nothing comes in and when something is co mingled with other bovines (ie at a show)  it does not come back - in regards to TB accreditation and Brucellosis  certification USDA requires all cattle are reconciled and that any new entries are either born on the farm or have undergone specific testing to maintain the status -  there are very few "real" closed herds in the US and Canada

Lots of people say they are "closed but only bring in bulls" - like bulls can't bring in disease ...now that is funny

rarebirdz are you really jamiediamond in a furry rodent disguise?

Why would rarebirdz and me be one and the same Lana? I have never had trouble saying what I think  <beer> Perhaps your still upset that not everyone mindlessly follows you and prefers Grape Kool Aid when the facts are still not in place? You are not involved in the research and at this time meaning the information you post could be considered hearsay.  Which brings me  to the beginning of this thread you brought in information that was not relevant to this thread as the bull you say has a possible defect has not at all influenced the Northern herd.

That is another definition of a closed herd. I believe the one we are discussing here is a genetically closed herd. It would also probably be best discussed on the thread appropriate to it, rather than this one which was started to show some pictures from a good Shorthorn herd.

Somebody mentioned to me that you were the same person so I thought I would directly ask  - like I said before I stand by the data I posted and you can choose to like it or not, ignore it or not or whatever you want. You may note that the information I provided is very similar to what was eventually posted on the ASA web site - would you call that hearsay? There are different levels of involvement in research, not everyone is a pipette master, these are team projects  and yes I am involved in the research and have been since 2005 or so .

I posted the information when the ASA added info on their web site on the potential genetic defect of Shorthorn calves on this thread because you had been so active and opinionated on the "Potential genetic defect in Shorthorn cattle" thread, wondering why no one had been in contact with the ASA (we were), wondering why the ASA hadn't posted anything (they eventually did) that it seemed odd that you did not acknowledge their posting in that thread - therefore to make sure you were up to date I put it on this thread not everything follows a set pattern or  line even if that is what you wanted or intended

glad to know you aren't rarebirdz - the outfit is not becoming LOL

I would have thought that if you wished to bring something to someone's attention on this board, a PM would be far more appropriate than hijacking another thread. On the plus side, at least it appears that lots of people have had the opportunity to check out the cattle from this wonderful herd!  (thumbsup)

Obviously was me... I somehow managed to gain weight and get to Denver whilst staying in Alberta stuck at work...  <beer>

All jokes aside aj you should never call a woman chubby when you yourself are especially when the woman in question knows she is in good condition....

I forgot to head into the fake people part.  Everyone who has any success with Shorthorn cattle gets bashed by you.  If you don`t like our opinions perhaps you should just skip the topics we post in.  If your gonna insult peoples intelligence, looks, and finally their program take a look in the mirror then a walk out in your pasture...

Oh lord forgive me....I thought I was being clever.

Funny you play the victim card again after you were a complete @$$.  I doubt clever had anything to do with your thought process...  ::)  At least you are consistent; you attack, get a reaction then oh poor aj misunderstood again...

That must have been be seeing I am rather "chubby" being 8 1/2 mo pregnant, except for the fact I wasn't at Denver. Really AJ, you don't ask a girl to identify herself as the chubby one...

You know Reality TV is somewhat popular now. Steerplanet needs to approach RFD TV to get the ball rolling. This thread is more entertaining than most of the shows IMO.

BTW Jaimie thanks for posting up some great cattle pictures. The 37W bull looks like a can't miss cow maker to me. Please carry on the discussion. I'll drink another cup of coffee. Cab.
