I don't know where some parents keep their brains. Maybe I'm over reacting & it's common. A guy just went by on the road in a 4 wheeler. Behind him w/ a rope & a round sled was a child. At one point the sled went sideways so it was almost parallel to the 4 wheeler. I just could imagine an accident waiting to happen.

Is it me or was that really stupid?

My kids (ages 13 & 16) love me to pull them in a sled with the Gator, but it's not nearly as fast as a 4-wheeler, and I would never do it on the road.

3 weeks ago a father just west of me was pulling his 5 year old son behind his 4 wheeler. Long story - short - when the 4 wheeler stopped the plastic sled didn't and it crashed into the back of the 4 wheeler driving the 5 year old boy's head in between the tire and muffler, he suffered 3rd degree burns on his face and will have to undergo several skin grafts. Use your head and be safe people! RW

Wow thats terrible. You would think that people would be smart enough not to do that.

Something along the lines happened a while back around here. A kid was on a 4-wheeler and was is front of one of his friends trucks. They were going somewhere much like a tractor/truck combo. A van went to pass the truck an didn't see the 4-wheeler and crashed right into him. I think the kid is now paralyzed. Whatever you do do it safely.

Probably the safest way is to do this in a field.  We took an old car hood and welded a car seat to it and it was a good time.  Need to use common sense, which to borrow a quote "is not so common"

we do it all the time out here, but never on the road.  We usually try to go in big circles in the field so that we dont hit the truck or 4 wheeler.  I did hit a irrigation ditch once that kinda hurt.  ;)

We used to do the same thing with a big ole satellite dish.  My uncle would make us ramp the terrace strips and get would get some serious air.

Red, I agree with you.  Some parents do not stop and think.  It might be fun at the moment but it is not fun in the ER.

When we lived in San Angelo we got a 9 inch snow.  A record snow.  Lasted one day, but there were parents going down the street pulling hoods off of old cars with kids on them behind a car or pickup.  Folks, there are no breaks on such an arrangement that will work.

I have taken metal shields off of old implements and made a sled.  We put ropes on them for the children and we pulled them behind the pickup in the alfalfa patch and never got real fast.  That thing can run under a pickup, tractor, or other motorized object.  We always stopped by slightly turning and slowing down until everything came to a complete stop.  In the hay field there was nothing to run into.  People who do such things on a street or road need a ticket IMHO.  You cannot replace eyes, teeth, or even some trauma damage for ever let alone a life.

Last week a freshman was killed while another freshman was backing the cotton bole buggy into a barn for storage until time to use it next year in Idolou, TX.  Life is so very precious and it can be lost in a twinkling of an eye.

One year the weather forecaster, who predicted a foot or more of snow was actually right.  In preparation we had went out and on a steep hill behind our barn made a ramp out of dirt, packed it down, poured water on to freeze it.  Then 16 inches of snow fell and we packed down a path that went over the ramp.  My aunt and uncle had school buses so we took some old inner tubes, blew them up and went tubing.  We were able to use that ramp for 3 weeks, by the third weekend we had a crowd gathered and had actually rigged a pulley to come back up the hill.

Speaking of which, does any of the ski slopes around any of you have snow tubing?  There is one about an hour from us that does, there are about 10 lanes and a conveyor that will take you and your tube back up to the top, it is a blast.

I've done it, a truck or car seems a bit more dangerous than a four-wheeler.  However the story above about the muffler could happen if you are not careful.

I guess I'm a little paranoid about hosreplay & what can happen. Hubby was 15 when he was goofing around w/ some friends in a pickup. He was riding on the hood. Fell off & was run over & dragged. Broke his back & horrible burns on parts of his body. Now a paraplegic & has to wear leg braces & use crutches.

I know we all did stupid things during our lifetime but I just know one mistake can change a lifetime forever.

Your right. But when The Man Upstairs wants you it doesn't matter if your doing something stupid or not it's time to go.

I agree w/ you on it being the your time. I just think about those left behind that have to suffer the guilt for a mistake or an injury that will change your life forever.
I'm not picking on anyone that does things like this. It just scared me seeing the saucer swinging towards the 4-wheeler.
