Comfort Inn is not bad as far as service, but know of a truck window that had a brick tossed thru it for a GPS unit last year on friday morning of the expo. Truck was parked next to the brick wall on the south parking lot.

You know= all of this talk of the Ohio state fairgrounds being located in a rough area- makes me wonder.. WHy are all the state fairgrounds located in these areas> Iowa, Indiana namely?  Indiana is the poorest location I've ever seen...

Stupid planning on the fair board's part.

I've stayed in some decent motels off of 17th avenue. Lots of restaurants close by. They're right off 71. Not very hood like. I'd recommend that area if you don't want to stay in a big fancy hotel

That are is called south campus. You are near Ohio State University. There is a big complex there with the Eddie George Grill and some other restaurants. Lots of students walk that area. I think their are some reasonably priced hotels there and its safer than the other side of freeway. Just don't go East of Freeway in that area.

Someone mentioned Crown Plaza downtown. You are also within walking distance to the Arena district and not too far from "the Cap" over 670.  It is pretty nice and yes, you could take your semen tank. Believe it or not for a bigger city it truly is a cow town. It wouldn't shock them that much.

Its not necessarily that they were built in bad parts of town as much as it is that most fairgrounds are old and the neighborhoods around them are old.  old =poor neighborhoods= more crime.  Look at Fair Park in Dallas for example.  South Dallas at its finest.  I mean you exit Malcom X off 45 and turn left on Martin Luther..  That being said, there are very few places that I would feel uncomfortable staying just because of location.  Im more concerned with cleanliness of the room.  And ive stayed in $40 motels that were clean as a whistle and also stayed at few hundo a night rooms that I wouldn't touch the bed.

One good thing about Fair Park is most of the people that have homes bording the fair grounds, they'll open up their front yard as cheap parking.  Last year I parked the SD in ol boys yard all day for 10 bucks.  I came back and the truck was sparklin clean.  He did want 10 extra bucks for the clean (thats how they roll) but well worth it.

People moving out w/ money.... cheaper housing around the area...  = undesirables spreading from the city out.....  awhile a go.. it was nice.  Going to OSU... I lived on South and North campus.... just have to know where and where not to go.

ok, thanks.  I got a room at the Comfort Inn, I think it's 6 or 7 miles away.  Hope that's safe.  Never been to Columbus.

NOOOOO !  That was a friendly my sister got bedbugs from that hotel no.  Go farther north.  It is safer and cleaner.  Here is a recent list of hotels that have had reports of bedbugs.  Theya re nasty!  Bedbugregistry.com.  Days Inn by the fairgrounds is bad.  The comfort Inn at the grounds.  Head the warning of not leaving things in your car.  It is true.  We are in this town each year at the fairgrounds and have seen a lot of theft.  Do not leave your vauables unattended at the stalls either.

yup, we ate at waffle house a couple years back and had the ghetto black guys trying to break into the rental car...right in front of the restaurant. also, we had stayed at a hotel close to the grounds, and what a nightmare that was! Crazy hotel manager tried to charge me an extra night and when I attempted to rectify it she started screaming at us, had her big man come out and start in on it, ran her hand across her throat. absolutely ridiculous, never seen a person act like that especially a manager. long story short, I didn't pay the extra charge, and was reimbursed from the hotel chain. now I stay far...far away! Honestly, there are some great hotels and areas outside of the immediate area.

Go to Polaris... or go to Easton.  Easton has been beefing up the security lately.  Everything in site inside your car will get broken into.... @ a local church last weekend, 30 cars were broken into.. windows smashed etc... while everyone was inside for service.........
