I can't believe I'm saying this ::), but have you considered a Lowine bull, I know some of them TJ has posted look like the picture you've posted without the horns and if you like the smaller frames they are all black and moderate.
OH MY! Did you just suggest that? Jason, can we send a PI to investigate, I believe someone has taken over Jills SP account!   (clapping)

Fullback is ok on heifers? Does he have alot of grow to him?
NO! Do not use 9FB3 Fullback on Hiefers!  The question was...what Angus bulls to use on COWS.

I used Final Answer on a Checks In The Mail heifer and got an awesome bull calf.  I just wanted a live, healthy calf.  He's really thick and long.  I like that calf so much that I'm breeding a few others to him this spring.

With both legend and lookout we've had quite a bit of inconsistancy, and i've heard the same from other guys, about 1 in 7 heifers are show worthy with lookout, and maybe 1 in 4 with legend. This year i bred heifers to Great Divide, he's been proven down to about 1.5 BW EPD and his actual was 77 lbs, with a 5.4 frame I really like his thickness but i think he'll still work on heifers.

I have a question, what makes Northern Improvement Clubby? Are his calves hard doing, poor milkers, or something else? Is it just that the Clubby breeders use him?
Or is he just a niche bull? I know you do not see allot of commercial guys use him, but I figured that was because of price.

Actually Northern Improvement sired EXAR Lutton, as far as pedigree, he has a "commercialman's pedigree" but he has no performance much like other angus "show bulls" . A 60 yearling weight EPD isn't very desireable if your just selling by the pound. His daughters have been milking pretty decent and raise a pretty decent calf.

Matrix was one of the most narrow made bulls that I've ever seen in person.  His body depth is other-wordly....but so narrow from behind.

What about Garden's Primestar, has calving ease, smaller frame size, excellent maternal, good EN, great carcass, little low on Docility but bred to the right cows would be fine.
B3r tender ten, same as above just more docility with a lower YW epd, but still had good actual yearling weight.  JMO

This post originated in Spring of 2009.  Not sure if everyone's answers would still be the same 2 years later.  Can we please start over?  My questions ares...

1. Are we discussing Angus bulls to use on mature cows or to breed virgin heifers?

2. Angus bulls to produce replacement females or bulls?

    a.  Commercial or show type?

3. Angus bulls to produce performance market cattle?

Thanks!  (angel)

I had 2 BC Matrix calves last year out of heifers.  The heifer calf is pretty stylish but is a little lighter muscled in the rear.  She was always a bit behind the other calves as far as growth, but she caught up and improves almost daily.  The bull calf has always been pretty heavily muscled and attractive.  Overall, i'm pretty pleased with them both. Looking forward to a calf out of the heifer.
