I've heard some rumors so I thought I would ask people on here. Has anyone had personal experiences with Monopoly show steers? I've heard they look really nice as babies but really don't pack on the muscle when at the size for show. 1200+ lbs.

we took mine to the salebarn at 700, could not walk, moaned when he stepped and shortstrided 8 inches on his back end. last one i will ever show i know that. won his class every show as a baby, just flat awesome. but come 650 he was getting last place everywhere and bucked over on the front end
I think this coming year will be the deciding year, I have seen allot of Monopoly calves, so we will see how many winners their are. He may prove to be as good as his daddy or he may not. But as far as the calves falling apart, it still has allot to do with the cows as much as the bull if not more. When their hot and the semen cost is low they get bred to every cow that can breed. Just like Heatwave, Mossy Oak, WMW, and the like they had issues but allot of the cows they were bred to did not help. Sound management could alleviate some of the train wrecks.

The steer in my Avatar is a Monopoly. We love the consistency of his calves. Not a one of ours has been crippled, or have been "jacked" out.
He is # 1 in our books!

We had one this past year, At 1200+ he could still walk like a cat, my biggest issue with him was keeping him at the right size, boy looked at food and got fat. He was also grand steer three times and res three times. I would raise another like him any day.

I THINK HE IS PRETTY GOOD ,certain cows with lots of power will do the best with him ,only heard of one herd that had calving problems ...We did have our best steer had disposition problems and stifled him self when halter breaking, almost to the conclusion on most of these clubby sires you want to halter break them before 3 months of age ...His calfs proably sold the best and got there share of pictures taken ...

The 4 or 5 Monopoly calves my dad has raised have all had terrific dispositions. They're extremely gentle...... and pretty darn good to boot. Deep bodied, soggy type calves who move like a cat and will lick the hair off your arms when you're petting on them.
My daughter has also been showing a Monopoly steer this year, and if I could buy another one just like him today I would. Great calf, great hair, and a great disposition for my little 11 year old daughter. If he had a tick more rear-end in him, he'd be super tough. I'll try to attach a picture of her steer......

I really like your steer. Keep me posted on how you do!
I would say Monopolys get better as they get older or that has been my experience with them...if you do things right you can beat some HW's but generally like you said jlingle they need to be a little more stouter, and a couple i've seen could of used more bone.

down here south, may as well forget about him. i know the calf that won houston was supposed to be a monopoly. yatta yatta. they simply have too much angus in them to have the power needed in a slick calf, also heard of some soundness issues really bad but that can go back to the cow, although its 50 50

Were looking at a few monopoly calves for this year,really impressed. But everyone keeps telling us that their late developers, that you want to use a older calf. Can anyone with past experience with monopoly steers enlighten us.
