Both claves are steers, I think HeiferShower14 is referring to the two legged heifer <cowboy>

The SunSeeker place 7th out of 8 in class and the HeatWave placed second in class to the 5th overall steer.
This was the first time my youngest had ever shown by her self and did well but did not make the cut in showmanship.
My oldest daughter won her Showmanship class and was real close to winning the entire division but came up a little short.

hmmmm....I don't believe that I have ever seen people put stickers on the calves heads to show the entry number.

Hey Nasc,

I had to do a double take when I saw your chute. I have one exactly like it. Aren't a whole lot of those left. You can't lift 'em but you can't kill 'em either.

Please take this as just a friendly word of advise: With the head catch on those chutes not going all the way to the floor, there have been calves go down in them and get their airways on the cross piece and have trouble breathing. I would suggest you put something on the wood flooring to keep it from being slick. I haven't had one go down in mine, but you never know.

Good luck with the calves.

He looks really good.  Was he perhaps a bit small?  Hard to tell from the pictures.

Cattledog- Stickers on the head is still some what common at the less prolific open shows in Ohio. I don’t like them for you have one heck of a time getting the glue off the calf’s head afterwards. One trick I have learned is to spray Pink oil on the head before check in. This makes clean up a lot easier at the end of the day.

Malinda- Thanks for the advice. I will put a rubber mat in it tomorrow. You’re right on the chute cant move’em and cant tear ‘em up. We use that particular one for breaking calves. (It’s my old one from back in the day) With having little girls I quickly learned if I want help moving a chute it better be aluminum. My daughter and I can move our aluminum chute anywhere we want, on the other hand the chute in the picture takes two men a boy and usually a piece of heavy equipment to move it from one spot to another.  Thanks for the well wishes, we are from Ross so you will probably get a chance to see the calves before the year is over.

StillLearning- For this show he was a bit small and the judge basically said that was the reason he was in second place and not first in class. In comparison the calf that won overall Champion is probably 150 to 200 pounds heavier then him. Our end game is the first week in August”09”and our calf is weighing 630 now so we are pretty much setting where we want to be setting for our August deadline. Being on the small side costs you in the winter shows but pay’s off in the summer.

stickers suck... when the hair grows out a little i just clip them off

agree. Leave it there for a week then run the flatheads down the center of their face - VIOLA!

They used to stick em on the tailhead at our county fair weigh in, which was between AGR and AGS back in the day. Now that sucked. After the 1st time, I ran ahead of my calves in the alley and made them put it on the head from then on
