Time helps SEO as much as anything.  Lots of times when a site goes "live", the design company hasn't finished up all of the back end stuff that they do to help get you found.  As people search you out more and more, and as you post more material to your website, you will become more visible.

A lot of it has to do with what you hope to accomplish with a web site.  Personally, and this is not to contradict what XBAR is saying because those comments are correct, I would start by getting some "keywords" on your website.  They do not have to be visible, they can be coded within the pages of your site so it doesn't look so cheesy.  Right now you have none.  This may be something that your design company has not yet done...I don't know.  The thing about keywords, is that they are FREE!!!!  Just have your design company code them into your site and those words will cause your site to come up more frequently in a search. 

Anyway, I really like your new website.

I have looked at several websites and always look to see who is responsible for the design. Ranch House Designs sites are always professional looking. Being a novice of web designs I needed someone that would work with my inexperience. They did that and helped me to understand some of the technical lingo that goes with a project like this. I am still learning and do appreciate the constructive criticism that we have received.

We actually take a lot of pride in our SEO knowledge - in fact we have an SEO specialist on board and all of our staff has participated in an educational workshop about SEO. There is a lot more to SEO than Adwords - these are 2 totally different things -- they work together, but aren't the same. If you look at all of our sites you can see that they are designed to be search engine friendly, and that's because we have all undergone extensive training on this.

We always enjoy good professional discussion, and would love to visit with you more,  but please don't make blanket criticisms of my business when you don't know the facts about what we do or the services we provide.

Site looks good, very good.  I don't know if creative graphic talent is built in or can be trained, but RHD designers have it and I lack it.  My brain thinks in nuts and bolts.

From my experience these factors are probably the best determination of where you come up in search engines

Keyword URL - very important on low volume searches.  ie.  you should always come up #1 when someone searches for your farm name
Page URL - page url should have keywords for that page embedded
Page Title - I would rank this pretty high.  The key is to have it different for every page and have keywords related to that page in it.
Meta Description - still used, shows when your info is displayed in listing results
Meta Keywords - useless
Site Keywords - Readability is still important,  but the use of multiple instances of keywords in your actual page is imporant.
Incoming Links - very important, most search engines make the assumption that if people link to you, you are creating quality content.  The holy grail would be a keyword text link from a high page rank site.
Age of Site - the longer the site has been around -  it receives a small bump


This is not an exact science, the algorithm that google uses is proprietary and changes.

No one questioned the services you're capable of providing. What was questioned was the usefulness of this site in attracting potential customers.  There will be no more common search for these guys than 'sculptor Angus' yet these parameters return nothing.  The only links on the entire site are to YouTube. As an SEO expert, you know this is insufficient in terms of generating views. For the amount of cash these people have spent having their site built, I would expect it to be much more interactive.

The stuff that could be done for them to rank for Sculptor Angus (which BTW you are the only one saying would be the #1 way the site is searched for) wouldn't have them ranking for that term yet anyway.  It takes time to start ranking for long tail keywords.

Exactly what I was saying above...give it a little time!!!  Jeff is right, and not just because I happen to agree. I own a car dealership and just switched design companies. I went from 4-5 hits on page one, to not being found until page 3. Within a few weeks I was right back where I used to be.

Don't get all caught up in this technical crap, or you will miss the point. RHD made a great looking site for you. What you do with it will determine its success!  Start taking pictures and start updating it!  You have a great tool. Content increases SEO. Work with your design team!

you have rodman on a couple of the for sale page.  a couple others too

why aren't they on the sire page or have more of the sires represented on the for sale page?

you need a mother page.  you mission statement states.  WE ARE FIRM BELIEVERS THAT THE COW makes the difference.   then i look for cows and i can't find any to see if they make a difference, and if they do, it would be nice to see some that have a few generations under your program or one that produced a sire you use.

you could also use smaller versions of the pics on the home page as most computers only need 72dpi and the page takes a while to load, especially for cattle producers who may not have a fast internet connection.

I hope you didn't take my comments as being critical towards you.  I feel like 'you have no idea' because you weren't informed. And that's unfortunate. Too many in the Cattle industry are out of touch with design/social media.  As a service provider, you can understand how this would be beneficial in selling your product to a client base that has 'no idea.'  They really have no reference point- and thats an amazing advatage: to be able to pitch to a client base that is so uninformed. At a bare minimum, you need to have your site linked to your online network- Facebook, twitter, Flickr, Instagram, etc.  How about a link to your local weather or maybe even an interactive map that potential customers could input their zip and see how far from you they are??  Or a gestation calendar?  Or a link to ag commodity closings for the day? Or maybe even a link to your local salebarn report?  Or even better, a link to the AAA website?  Just some ideas.

Just adding some fuel to the fire, but I would also, if I was hiring a paid professional, expect my website, which I don't personally have, to come up fairly high-up on the first page of a Google search!

For interest's sake, I Googled my herd, as you suggested about the Sculptor Angus herd, and the first three items were about the herd, even though I don't have a website!
