Pa Do Suds

Pa Do Suds was brought up on a post recently. I have to admit when this bull was promoted I really didn't pay much attention to cattle. What we're is strengths/weakness? Did he make good cows? Just wanting to know more about his influence.

He was hit or miss-and like alot of the 5th ave based cattle he needed to bred to one with eye appeal-the bws could be above the 90s like alot of bulls that were first generation from Windstar etc- They had some grow and there were some stout thick deep ribbed ones out of him that made sows if the female they were out of was a decent milker O0

While I was drifting, looking for direction to take my herd, I loved the look of this bull. My goals were hindquarter muscling and bone improvement, two traits he seemed to carry lots of, while Shorthorns, at the time, seemed to be lacking!
After 16 years of breeding Shorthorns, fortunately semen was not available for export! I found a 'bone improver'  walking bull in 2014 and that solved my short-term problem. It has taken generations to solve the CE problems!
My goals have changed considerably, my bone was improved in a generation, and the hindquarter muscling is coming along nicely!

The Suds calves I had were very good.  The females made good cows.  According to his pedigree, 5th Avenue would have had no more influence that Cunia.  Hollywood Ave. was one of my favorite bulls of his day.  I would use him today if I had semen.  I do have some on Houston that I've got to try someday.  Between him and his half brother GS Deerpark, there's got to be some potential there.  Deerpark Leader 18th was one of my favorites.  I wish I had more semen on him, too.

We used Suds on blacks and shorthorns to make steers for a few years and got along much better with him than we did with his sire.

Seeing the Fifth Avenue bull mentioned reminds me of a bull called Downtown Ave that I always wanted to try. I still would if I could track down a cane or two.

While talking about PaDo bulls , I really like Suds and Downtown Ave. But my all time favorite bull from Stouts was Boxer !!

Thanks for the information. I'm looking for a bull that is thick, with some size, but I still need calves my kids can show at the county Fair. I've heard the Pa Do Suds name, just didn't know much about him.

Boxer was the best all around bull they produced as far as a balance of BWS and grow-from what little I saw of his progeny-I dont think he was used as widely as bulls like suds or fuzzy vision If you have clean cows that have eye appeal and are not hi bw cattle-suds would be good for kids show projects-the females are better than 50% of the equation JMO O0

One of the biggest reasons that Boxer wasn't used as much in my opinion was Don was charging $50/straw with a 10 straw minimum. That was serious money then. He was one of the best moving bulls around. He made some good daughters. I've still got a few straws of semen and trying to decide what to use it on.

When I was a kid I always tried to talk dad into using suds I thought he was cool and would make me a cool steer. I really like the looks of boxer I would be interested in seeing a different picture of him and suds than the two that were always used for them.

I’ve got two straws of that bull. An old timer gave it to me when I first bought shorthorns. Had to be 2002 or so.

Suds x Irish Magic CA 2005-Martindell farm- best but least recognized good shorthorn herd I know of -great people too O0.

We bred a couple cows to Sud's way back when. The females had big BWt's floating around in their pedigree had a 110 pound calf if memory serves. And a 115# calf that ruined a show heifer.
