I do not have permission to post the following letter, I just found it to be rather "inspiring" considering it hits on a sensitive topic. It would be neat if we could start a movement. My praises go out to Kacie Killen. This was posted to my friends FB page;

Below is my letter I just sent to Pepsi regarding their Pepsi Refresh grant funds.  Currently, the Humane Society for the United States (HSUS) is in the lead to be awarded $250,000 to "help" save animals!!  Also, in the $50,000 category the leader is titled "$50,000 to stop healthy animals from being fed antibiotics."

Please send an email to Pepsi at this link http://cr.pepsi.com/usen/pepsiusen.cfm?date=20101129 and feel free to copy my letter!  Also, don't forget to vote! http://www.refresheverything.com/index/index.  Voting ends tomorrow!!!  Tell your family and friends!

This is what I sent to the Pepsi Refresh Project...Thanks to Whitney Wankle!

I am absolutely dismayed that the Humane Society of the United States(HSUS) is even eligible for your Pepsi Refresh funds, let alone your $250,000 grant!  The HSUS has a 100-million dollar budget which far exceeds your 25-million dollar limit.  Furthermore, the HSUS is a lobbying organization, which would also disqualify them from your Pepsi Refresh program because in the official application guidelines, it strictly states that applications cannot to any degree “challenge, lobby for or seek to change current laws, or enact any new laws.”

Also, in your $50,000 category--the project titled “$50,000 to stop healthy animals from being fed antibiotics.” is in direct correlation to federal legislation that this group is lobbying for in Washington D.C.  This would also disqualify them from your program based on the official application guidelines stated above regarding lobbying activities.

Please disqualify these proposals and organizations from receiving any funding from the Pepsi Refresh program.  If you do not disqualify them and they are awarded grant funds, you will be robbing worthy communities and organizations of needed funding.  These two organizations already have more cash in their budgets than numerous applicants to your program will ever see.  If these organizations are awarded your grant funding, many will join in boycotting Pepsi products, just as many have bonded together in boycotting Yellowtail Wines for their contributions to the HSUS.

Thank You.

Sincerely, Kacie Killen

HSUS is on front of human diseases that rob us  of our children.  It is in front of the people serving to keep us free.  It is soooo Wrong!  They use 41% of their donations to help and the rest feeds fancy buildings and inflated salaries.  Yes I voted and posted on a horse forum and facebook.  So sad.  I love my animals but will not put them before soldiers and sick kids.

the real goal of HSUS, the elimination of people.

Thank you for your e-mail, we appreciate the time you took to share your sincere feeling regarding the Humane Society.

As you may know, we’ve made a commitment through the Pepsi Refresh Project to fund, not endorse ideas which the public believes in, as long as they are in accordance with our guidelines. And every idea submitted is carefully evaluated against our project guidelines. This reflects the spirit and goal of the Pepsi Refresh Project – to fund ideas from anyone, anywhere and at any time.

Evaluating a grant idea:

In the past, we have come across cases where a grant application falls within the Pepsi Refresh Project guidelines, even though the organization's broader mission might include activities that would not qualify. To address these cases, we work with our third-party grant partner, Global Giving, and ensure that grant funding goes only to the areas outlined in the application.

Awarding the grant:

In addition, all Pepsi Refresh Project grant recipients are assigned a grant manager and required to provide regular and detailed updates on the use of grant funds. This measure is in place to ensure all recipients are using their funds as intended, in accordance with the guidelines of the Project and the voting, which has been done solely by the people.
Our social responsibility partner, GOOD, is also involved in all aspects of the grant process, including developing the guidelines and working closely with grantees to bring ideas to fruition.

We’ve worked hard to ensure that the integrity of the Pepsi Refresh Project remains intact so that we can realize ideas big and small, connect like-minded individuals and organizations and help move communities forward. That’s what the Pepsi Refresh Project is all about.

Sincerely,

The Pepsi Refresh Project

The first misconception about HSUS is right in their letter. HSUS is a completely different orgnization than the original Humane Society, many people don't realize that and that's why it gets such great support. Making people aware of the vast difference in the two groups would radically change the amount of support HSUS gets.

I dont agree with the who money issue to the Humane Society, but banning Pepsi??  Thats not only their drinks and chips but places like Taco Bell, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut....and if I remember right they are tied in with dunkin dougnuts too just to name a few! I refuse to adopt through our local humane association, all the do is rack up money and it suppose to feed the animals...hello they get donations out the but...my husband works for a local grocery company's warehouse and when a dog or cat food bag is busted they send it to the local humane society.which i heard is an average 20 bags a day if not more. To adopt a dog here it is 90 dollars!!! I thought about adopting a horse but their rules r soooo stupid like a monthly visit for 2 years. The people there dont know crap about horses one i looked at was supposed to be 12 when i looked at its teeth it was more around 4. So if money is suppose to go to educating people about animals and supportiing the animals they need to do a hell of a better job and quit pocketing it!

I'm glad you guys found my letter!  Thanks for sharing it on your forum!  I hope all of you sent Pepsi a letter or called them!  Pepsi will be "officially" announcing the winning proposals on December 23rd after they "review" the applications to make sure they qualify.  Let's hope Pepsi was listening to us!

Thanks again!

Round two, please don't forget to vote (and I am not biased towards this one at all  ;) )

I got a pretty similar generic reply back from pepsi also, but I let them know I had heard it twice already and would appreciate it if they would put some thought into replies.
