I am not an experienced Maine person. I have some Pistol Pete semen in the tank. I wanted to use it this coming spring. If you were to use him today what is the ideal type female you might try him on?
The female I was thinking of putting him on is a Get It Done out of a CHI/Ang commerical cow. She calves small is little shorter necked nice depth of body and pretty easy fleshing. Is it worth a try? She has a WMW calf this year we were pretty pleased with. the calf is a tick straight up front but not too worried. She is not straight at all.

The Mother of our Monopoly/Miss Yardley  steer has Pistol Pete in her backround. She was purchased from Gib Yardley, and is a registered Maine.

Pistol Pete sired some great calves back in the day.  By today's standards he would be too shallow, tight wound and tall.  I would use him on a ground sow type cow that needs to be prettied up for best results.  Willer's had a son that was quite good as well and for the life of me I can't think of his name.

Total Play needs the same type of cow or otherwise you may end up with a string bean.

I believe the Pistol Pete son you are thinking of is Maine Break.  We still use him on our heifers, and we have always been quite pleased with the outcome.
