9:00 AM START.  Lets get with the business.  If you start to late it can be hard to have them look full and fresh as it is to long after their normal eating time.

Not around here only the large shows 300 plus head have to be there the day before most jackpots show up in the morning weigh and check in show and go home that night we went to 27 shows one year and only stayed over night at 5 of them. guess it depends on the part of the country if we gotta be in place the night before lets start as early as possible

Apparently it varies alot in different parts of the country.  We don't have very many summer jackpots in OK anymore, and the schools cannot excuse a student for a jackpot show, and in fact only allow 10 days of activity (that's any activity - shows, contests, conventions, ball games, etc...) absences per year, period.  If a jackpot show required check in earlier than Friday night, they'd just as well not bother, 'cause nobody would be there.  More and more of the shows we go to check in just a couple of hours before the start of the show.

Many of our shows open the barn so you can move in the day before if you like. They try to get as many checkins done the day before also.  Then start checkins at 7:00 and show at 9:00 or 10:00.

A little background on the show I’m asking these questions about:

The show is in South Central Ohio.

The facilities are very nice in my opinion, Big show ring, nice wash rack, ample barn space and all the electric you could ask for within 50 yards of the show ring.

It will take place in the first part of April.
This show will take place on a Saturday.

This is a not a BEST points show.

This will be the 16th year for the show.

We usually have less than 100 head show up but we have had years where we hit the 130 range.

We are currently starting the show at noon and we do not have showmanship. I'm kicking around the idea of suggesting we move the show up to a 9:00am start and offer four age divisions of showmanship. This is the way the some of the BEST point shows in Ohio operate. "Starting with the showmanship at 9:00 a.m."

Thanks for everybodys feedback

How many rings do yawl have? Some friends of mine want go to a 2 ring show but they will go to a 4 ring show for the simple fact of the drive time. If you give points the First 3 rings and a Buckle in the 4th ring seems to work pretty good. You have to show in the First 3 to be eligible for the Buckle.

if you need to register, weigh in or get hip heights 9:00 might be pushing it for some. Since we are slow to begin w/ I like the noon starting time. Especially if it's a one day show & it gives the calves time to eat & drink.

I'm one of a group hosting a show in Feb.  We have started in the past at 11am, but have changed that this year to 10am.  We will have about 150 heifers and 40 steers, followed by a jackpot showmanship.  Last year with the 11 am start time, we were finished by 7pm.  The toughest thing about a 9am start I can see, is having enough time between check-in and start time to break classes.

This year we are adding a Team Fitting contest Friday evening for 3 age divisions.  This is to encourage early check-in and also overnight stay at our motels.  Next year we will approach them for sponsorship donations.

I have our info posted on the Upcoming Shows board in case you might want to look at our order.  We DO NOT list the showmanship in any information, but announce before and during the show that Showmanship is immediately after the show for $5 a head.  We pay the winner 60% and 40% to the Res.  Prizes go down five spots in each of the 2 divisions.

We are an LLC and 501c3, and pay back 100% of entry fees.  It takes us about $9000 to put on the show.

Most of the jackpots we go to you check in by 9am and the show starts at 11am.  We get there around 7am check in, wash, feed, and let them rest until 11am.  Seems to work well for us.  We would prefer to drive in the morning of the show to save money, plus most of the places that have jackpots do not have a hotel with in 15 or 20 miles.
