Porta Cool

I saw an ad for one of these units (used) on Craig's List, and wondered if they are worth the $$?  I hadn't seen one being used for cattle until last year at the Simmy Jr. Nationals, and thought it was a good idea.  Anyone have experience with them at  home?  Are they hard to keep up?  What about water supply?

How does dust affect them?  Do they get clogged up after a while, or can they just be easily rinsed off.  I have considered getting one to.  Temps have already set into the high 90's, and it's only going to get hotter.

I've got one for sale in TN. It is Polar Cool brand. It's 4 years old , has the 48" blades, so its about 5 1/2 feet tall. New is $3500. This one is $1800. New pump put in it last fall.

Doc, any idea on how much that would cost to ship up here? That's about the same price as the really good 24" port-a-cool, but yours would pack a heck of a lot bigger punch!  Can  you just hook yours up to a garden hose and walk away?

I don't know what shipping would be . I could find out. I should have brought it to Duis' & used it in the sale barn & then sold it. Yes, you can hook it to a hose & turn it on. I sell bodyshop equipment & this came out of a shop that the owner closed down & we bought all of his equipment. I think the website says it would handle 4000 square feet. I can get a quote tomorrow if you want me to.

The filters are easy to take out and you just rinse them off with a water hose and their as good as new.

Somebody help. I have a porta cool and it keeps over flowing water out of the bottom. I put a new float in it. Is it possible that the pump is stopped up and not getting the water to the line up top fast enough? If so, can you get a replacement pump from them or just a standard sump pump? By the way, when it's working it is a great fan!

Check the float valve. If it's over flowing it's not cutting off the water for some reason.

I have one we have used for four years in our show barn, has been great for the calves during the Texas high heat and humidity.  Clean up is relatively easy once the unit is diassembled.
