So I can't help but be a little bit (hugely) excited about all of my calves coming next spring by Diamond Prophecy 21P and Diamond Temperature Rising 28T.... My level of excitement has managed to  sky rocket to new levels for 2011 though as I have a Miami Baron x Diamond Julie Baroness 8J calf coming as well as a Me N My Hawkeye x Circle M Candy's Kit Kat 9K  (this one is a heifer  <party>)

What is everyone else's exciting babies for 2011

We at a&t have a few matings that we are pumped up about as well, but first, I really like that kit kat cow jamie, wish she was red but damn nice cow regardless.  I will rate my top 4 expected matings:
1)DRC 475CS mated to our Sneed bull that we call "Bond".  475 was by far the highest IMF female in the group we bought from Dover Ranch in 2005.  She ratioed 128 for IMF and 103 for REA.  She has already proven that she transmits these traits to her offspring as all of the calves by her that have been ultrasounded have been at the very top of their contemporary groups.  Her 2008 Open Range son was a standout on paper in the 2009 Blue Collar sale as he was the 2nd highest for IMF was above average for REA and was 2nd for ADG, he was selected by Koulee Shorthorns in Washington.  Bond was the highest IMF bull in the 2009 Blue Collar sale and beleived to be the highest IMF shorthorn bull ever scanned at 9.46!, with only .17 fat!!.....and still ratioed average for REA!  I hope I don't get accused of being the "Carcass Freak" because of this mating.  I don't use any genetics unless I can use them phenotypically.  Both of these parents are deep-sided, easy fleshing and calving ease as 475 had a 64 pound birthweight and Bond was 70 pounds.  I can't wait for this calf!
2)A&T Miss Obvious 725 mated to Eionmor Marquis.  Much of the reason I am anticipating this calf is because of how good the 2010 heifer is from this mating.  725 is a Byland Mission out of DRC 244 (captain's dam) and the mother of a&t rawhide 962, the very promising young sire at Galbreath Farms in ND. Marquis needs no introduction.
3)GVR Sylvia Blossom 50 bred to Marquis. Old 50 is a heck of a cow that will be 11 years old by the time she calves this February.  A Titleist 441 daughter, she is a massive 5 frame 1385 pound truck with a perfect udder and tremendous will to produce.  We acquired her with the purchase of the Green Valley herd and with the group also came a daughter of 50 by Fairacres Dollarmaster, who is also a good rip. 50 had a solid red 034 bull last year but was born with the sac over it's nose, man was i sick over that deal but we grafted an angus heifer onto her and that calf ratioed 122 in our entire herd for weaning weight!  This cow will definitely be flushed before she leaves us.
4)A&T Obvious Diva 932 mated to Captain Obvious.  Maybe it's crazy to get too excited about a 2 year old heifer's first calf but this female is so special, I can't help it.  She is a Open Range daughter out of DRC 244 which makes her linebred to the DRC 358K cow at Dover Ranch who was quite possibly the best shorthorn female I have ever witnessed.  Then add in another shot of 358 by mating her to her maternal brother and it should be dynamite.  For any of you who know John Sonderman, you can ask him about the 932 female as well as any of the females from our 244 cow family.  They are da' bomb!

I have 2 very good cows bred to FSF Hardline that I am excited about.  Both cows have clicked with about everything used on them and I really liked the Hardline calves I saw this Fall.  The cows are a Meyer X Habanero cow and a Habanero X Draftpick cow.  I also have a couple of et calves coming that will be sired by Sonny and out of a very moderate thick made Double Vision cow.  They have been ultrasounded and one is a heifer and the other a bull.  I also have some other proven matings expected, but those are the ones that have me most excited.  All are due in March. Hope all have a Merry Christmas.

I always look forward to the coming calf crop each year, and this year I am more excited than ever. This year, we will have our first complete calf crop from Touchdown and we will find out more as to whether he is going to be the calving ease sire we expect him to be. So far, he has not had any calves above 85 lbs at birth, all have been unassisted and polled as well. They also had excellent depth and capacity.
Also this spring we will be getting a good bunch of ET calves including our first Timeline ET calves from Elsie's Jade, SBR Dora 228, and Shamrock Lucy 68L. So far, we have not had an assisted birth from Timeline as well, but it will be interesting to see how he works on some of our best donors. We had several good flushes using Timeline on some of our better donors, and we will be putting many more in for 2012.
We will also get our first calves from Hillside Leader who has proven to be a low birth weight sire at Bales, and and I expect he will prove to do the same here. Of course, I am also excited to get more Saskvalley Pioneer 126P calves as well as another calf crop from Major Leroy.

Just make sure that the cows are getting plenty of exercise and only grass hay. Not even a sniff of anything corn.

At my age I am not sure excited is the right word to use with respect to pregnancies and birthing however,
apart from the calves we expect from Ruffian and Sovereign I have a few  matings that I will be looking forward to.

Our Bonanza bull has bred a few heifers and we have couple calves coming that may be worth a second look.
They are Muridale Bonanza 85W  X
1. A  Real World 45S daughter out of Glenford Susie 81T
2.A Studer's Prince Randy 84S daughter out of DSF Isle 82S - She is a double Eionmor Marquis 86G heifer.
Both could be of interest

Sovereign bred my Leader 21st heifer, Uluru CL21 Presto 1W which I got from a pregnancy I bought from JIT
She is out of Shadybrook Presto 73G
We will see what we get here.

I also have some embryos in recips in Iowa that are from Muridale Buster 14K x my Ar Su Lu Halo 3120 cow
and Eionmor Mr Gus 80C x Halo 3120

Then there is the heifer I bought in Montana - Diamond K Coronita Leader
A Diamond K Leader 96 daughter out of a TPS Coronet Leader 21st daughter, Diamond K Miss Duchess 212
She is bred to Diamond K Jumbowho is a  Leader 21st son
What will be will be.

Some old and some new

I'm pretty excited about our pregnancies for 2011.  Our AOD heifer is bred to ALI for a Feb. heifer calf.

We have more pregnant cows than we can handle the first week of March as every one of our embryos resulted in  a pregnancy this year and the cows we AI'd for that week did very well too.  We have two Bloodstone X Hagie's Dream Lady 420 pregnancies due, 1 TMGus X Myrtle Bo(our donor cow), and 2 Red Vision X Schrag's Cathy cow.  In addition, our Vortec/Myrtle Bo cow is bred to Bremer's K& A Spice bull and we will are expecting a bull calf out of Myrtle Bo and  Saskvalley Pioneer a little later in the spring.

The Bloodstone X Dream Lady 420's should be real exciting as they are full sibs to Lot 1A  in the Cyclone Trace Sale that brought $19.000 and was the Champion Shorthorn heifer a few days ago at the Nebraska AGR show.  They are also maternal sibs to the top selling 1B lot that was Reserve Champion in Louisville for Weickerts.    Schrag's  Cathy cow was the mother of the High Point Steer in South Dakota a couple of years ago and her mating to Red Vision could be very intersting.  Our Myrtle Bo cow has had several very good calves as well, including SS Breathless Bo that Samantha Schrag showed so successfully in Louisville and Denver last year.    Myrtle Bo's daughter out of Vortec (Fancy)had her first calf for us this year.    Her JPJ calf was our top heifer this past year and we're hoping for something blue and exciting out of her mating with the Spice bull.    We're also very excited to see what Myrtle Bo and Pioneer can produce together.
