Recip cows

I can't find the answer by looking it up. has anyone had an experience when a recip showed heat and still be safe bred with the embryo? Don't want to kill a pregnancy if I can help it but I also want to get the recip cow bred asap if the embryo didn't stick.

Line up a preg check at about 30 days post-breeding. Put a CIDR in 7 days before preg check. Pull the CIDR when you preg check and give Lut after she checks open. That's about the quickest way to rebreed her if you don't want to risk losing an ET pregnancy.

Would you wait until after the 30 days to put a bull in?

Technically you could put the bull in at the same time as the embryo transfer, but if you aren't going to be able to tell whether the calf is ET or natural by looking at it (i.e. it's gonna be black either way) you could wait 2 weeks to put the bull in, then preg check during the ~2 week window when it has been at least 28 days since the embryo was transferred but it has been less than 26 days since the bull was put in. If you want to wait longer than that to preg check then I would wait 30 days so you can better distinguish between the age of the potential pregnancy.

DNA Parentage tests are always an option too

Thank you for your imput! The bull they would get turn in with is an orange bull. The bull to the embryos is a black baldie

By orange I assume red base and also carrying diluter gene.  A blaze face bull is most likely only hetero black.  Either sire could sire solid red calves when bred to red or hetero black cows.
