So many of us didn't know Cathy personally, but thought it would be nice to put down some of our fondest memories of her.  For me, I was always able to relate to her.  I remember when she proudly posted the pictures of her and Marks chopping crew last year.  The big CLAAS chopper and trucks hauling in first crop hay for the big dairies in Ohio.  Then finding out she worked for Cargill back in the 80's.  We had alot in common with these two topics .  She is the reason I got back into nutrition work not too long ago.  Seems like the icon of the running dog is in relation to WOODY.  (dog)  Sometimes I would email her at 2 am after I did the morning milking with the dairy cows, and she was there by 6 am responding and laughing at me for being up so early with the cows.

I hope you guys can add to this.  She touched us in so many different ways!

I find it interesting that, just a few days ago,  she asked us all "How do you want to go?"   Maybe this was God's way of giving her time to think about all the things she loved in her life as her time drew near.   Typical of Red, she asked us to share her journey!    For us,  Red's passing should be a lesson in caring for your friends--new or old, those you have met in person or those you have yet to meet!   Thank God for Red and her ability to connect with all of us!!

I was thinking about this same thing, early this morning Lynn. Her thread " How do you want to go?", made us all think about a subject for a few brief moments, that many people do not want to discuss very openly. I regret now, that I joked that" I wanted to go like my grandfather... in his sleep... not screaming like his three passangers".  I would like to revise this now, to... I would like to go just like Cathy did... in her sleep after a wonderful day visiting with friends at a stock show.

While I have never met Cathy, it was on my list of things I wanted to do. She oftentimes would send me emails encouraging me or disagreeing with something I had said on SP. She had a way of doing this that made me think. I respected her wisdom and kindness to the extreme. She was a wonderful, kind, thoughtful and intelligent lady... a true example to us all.  When Jason started a thread asking SP members to start blogging, I immediately received an email from Cathy asking me to consider starting one. I emailed her back and told her that I was probably too busy to do it on a regular basis. I received another email asking me to try it " as a personal favor to her". How could I say" no" to that request? For the past several weeks I have been up to my armpits in alligators, and have not found time to write regularly in my blog. There have been several days that I thought that I should stop and blog for a few minutes or I would be receiving an email from Cathy. I didn't do it.

In the past few months, I have had a few close friends and neighbours pass away. While all of them were distressing, I don't think any of them hit me as hard as Cathy's death... a lady I had never met. Her life and her death are lessons to us all.I feel very privileged that while we never met personally, we met from the inside out,  Rest in peace Cathy. I am sure God has a special place for you for your life here on earth.

I first met Cathy and her family in person at the NAILE in 2006. We sat together for almost two hours watching the junior heifer show. I will never forget the time she left me a voice mail, saying she got a red bull calf from our bull we were promoting at the time. She was so giggly and excited. I always thought how wonderful it would be if we could bottle and preserve that amazing giggly laugh she had. She would often e-mail me, asking questions and trying to just come to conclusions. She was always in search of the truth with many issues other then cattle. Cathy will always have a place in my heart as she is one of my heroes. God, we are all going to miss her.

It's amazing how a person whom you've never met can touch so many lives. Cathy was the type of person who always looked for the positive in what was said and I felt like she pushed me to think about things in a more positive manner and to reflect it as a better person.
She will be sorely missed as a part of my daily journey on sp. She too was one of the first to give me a warm welcome. Cathy, I hope your new journey is filled with green pastures and plentiful loved ones and includes lots of animals that I know has always been near and dear to your heart.
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers today.

Lynn- My thoughts were exacly as  yours- kinda weird she just posted that too- I will miss her so much- she too gave me my first Karma points- she was a true inspiration to all of us- from the way she handled her self here on Steer Planet to how she enjoyed her life to the fullest even when she was sick- Im truely a better person because of her- We have discussed on messenger everything from dogs, to kids, to men, and cows- I will cherish every minute that I spent talking to her, I only wish I could have met her in person.  Gidget I know she was your best friend, my heart goes out to you.  God received a true special person Friday nite.

I'm having a hard time with this deal. I'm almost afraid to say anything cause it might not be worthy of her. Red invited me via e-mail to come over from showsteer to steerplanet right before showsteer kicked me off the forum for discussing genetic defects to much. Its weird but it was like she was a big sister figure almost that kinda kept me in line on the discussion board. They say you should judge people on how they handle adversity. I never heard her complain or whine and she played the cards she was dealt to the full extent. She wouldn't back out of a fight but she also knew when it wasn't productive to continue or start an arguement.I really miss her.

I'll wistfully think of Red every time I see bubble wrap.  I teased her so much about it and she always seemed to have a great comeback!!

I just got home a few minutes ago.  I was the dirty lady with poo on her boots in the computer room at the Holiday Inn bawling her eyes out in front of the computer.  This is really going to take me a while to deal with.

Cathy was a true friend that I only saw in person once.  She cared about each and every one of us on the SP.  For a person battling her own many problems, she always had a kind word and a bit of encouragement for everyone.

I cannot put into words, adequately, what she meant to me.  She was like a little guardian angel.  She had a knack for when someone needed a PM, an email or even a fun phone call.

I can tell you that often on day at work, I would be sitting at my desk, always on a rough and crumby day, I would get a call....."Hey, it's Cathy!!!!!.....we would chat and solve the world's problems and we would always feel better.

I loved giving her a bad time about King Killer Kitty.  Woody, her pride and joy, was definately off limits.  She was so excited when I sent him a new coat!  Rest well, friend, rest well.  MSL

She literally sat by my side back last year when I lost two of my Grandparents - She sent me PM after PM keeping my spirits up during my tough time. I am forever grateful to her for that. SP was an infant when she invited me to join and just look at what she accomplished by just being Red .........

This has been a hard weekend. Every time I come to the board I think of her. I went out today to the OBE and couldn't help but think of her.

I knew Cathy before the board. Her family had shown in our county for quiet sometime.  Her and I were talking one weekend and I said I really need some help grooming. She immediately gave me her nephews name. He is an excellent groomer but also a very nice young man. He is extremely dependable. Cathy would always email or call after a show to see how things went. I was able to pick her up for one show and we had fun. Drank alot of coffee and talked about health problems. It was kind of nice to be able to talk to someone else who also had lots of health problems but she just kept plugging along. I remember when she had her valve replacement. We talked about it prior to her going in. She called me and left me a message after she got out. When I called her poor thing was so groggy from anethestic I said how about we talk when you get home.I don't think folks knew how much she enjoyed this board and really cared about folks on here. I know its a "cattle board" but with some of her disadvantages it filled a huge void for her. I know the people she met on here have become great friends. She said so many nice things when we last talked about so many of you.

Mark and her really are great people. Hard working salt of the earth. I know Cathy is drinking coffee looking down on us with a smile.

"Happy Trails" by Dale Evans Rogers

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.
Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Some trails are happy ones,
Others are blue.
It's the way you ride the trail that counts,
Here's a happy one for you.

Happy trails to you, until we meet again.
Happy trails to you, keep smilin' until then.
Who cares about the clouds when we're together?
Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you, 'till we meet again.

Cathy met my family at Louisville "07. Since then I've gone through a divorce and custody battle. She was in touch regularly giving me support and a woman's perspective. Cathy didn't have to do that, she wanted to! It was her way. I'm glad I got to talk to her the day she went into surgery to let her know how many of us were Praying for her. She chose to Rejoice in the Lord, and Love others despite her afflictions. That's what made Cathy special.

See ya soon friend,
Lee

When she would give her opinion on things, many times she would apologize if it happened to disagree with someone elses. I once told her if she didn't stop doing that she was going to have to pay me a nickel for every time she did it. She kept a running total and could tell me at anytime how much she owed me, lol. The example of her sweet spirit showed be noted and followed by us all.

I too will miss her and feel a loss. I never got to meet her but she was great here and welcomed everyone. She also gave me my first karma point and welcomed me here with a PM. I am sorry I never got to meet her and wish her family well with this trying time. I am glad she got to see some of her babies born cause they always bring me great joy when I see them. Rest in peace Red, you will be sadly missed here.
