rope halters

My friend has a steer that keeps breaking the sullivans rope halters. He's not mean he just knows how to do it. It could be a new one or a old one. he's went through 10 in the last week. Has any body seen this? he shows sunday and wensday of this week.

I havent really seen it but have seen some that get out of any rope halter.  I'd say get a nylon halter - kinda like a show halter only nylon or use a horse halter

he's learned to do it and expects to do it.  expect at least a small fight and pouting as you switch to a stouter halter.

I'd work him with a clip-in nose ring along with the halter.  Put in the ring right along with the halter (if he's a cranky guy, you might have to put him in the chute to get the ring in) and tie him with both the halter (as usual) and lightly with the nose ring strap.  Stay near by to "monitor" his "progress" and so he doesn't get in a pickle with the ring.  If he associates the tug on his nose with the halter, maybe he'll have a little more respect.  I'd work him in it that way, too.  You'll be leaeing him with 2 leads - one on the halter and one on the ring.  Good luck!
