Does anyone use a 3000 watt generator to run a blower?  According to Sullivan's their blower uses 2185 watts of power so in theory a 3000 watt generator should run one blower.  It should also be able to run 3 or 4 fans at a time (not the same time as the blower)  I realize a lot of people think the Honda 6500 is the generator to go with, it can run two blowers, but in reality we will probably never need this much power. The 6500 generator weighs over 200 pounds and with two young girls as help its not easy to get around.  We don't go to any shows where portable power is a must and only a few where it would be helpful.  I am really considering buying the Honda 3000c generator, it's quiet and only weighs 68 pounds and for the cost I could buy two for what one 6500 costs so if I did find a need in the future for running two blowers I could buy a second one.  Any thoughts?  Here is the generator I am considering:

The equation to figure this goes like this. Take the Amps X Volts = running wattage. Now it will take 2 to 3 times that to start it. So if it's running wattage is 2000 you'll want at least a 4000watt generator. Hope this helps.

Where generators are concerned, bigger is better, we tried to go the cheap route but you just don't have enough power.  There are a lot of good reasonable generators out there besides the Honda, just have to shop around.

We got a Onan 4300i invertor (listed as $2700) for $1000 @ the Des Moines Home show last winter.  Smooth power, wheels, very quiet...  Looking for deals is well worth it.

we found something kind of cool for generators. we have two 2000w inverters from honda. they are about 50lbs full of gasoline and about two feet long a foot wide and a foot and a half tall. you can buy a cord relatively cheaply that hooks two of these generators up and you then have a 4000w generator.

I ended up finding the Honda 3000c local used for $400.  It is very easy to pickup and move and takes up very little room.  It does run 1 blower without a problem.  Very happy with the purchase.

CBC Farms,

I agree that is a great setup but somewhat expensive.  I have seen some of the Honda EU series invertors running at horse shows and can't believe how quiet they are.

We used that exact generator at Denver a couple years ago and it had plenty of power for a blower and clippers running together.
