Well here we go this is the news article for the grand steer
Friday, he earned the title of grand champion. Saturday, the king of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo proved how much he's worth. "Prince Charming" sold for $75,000. Bonham Show Cattle bought the winning steer from Morgan Breaux, 16, of Tomball. In addition to the $75,000, Breaux also received a $10,000 scholarship she says she plans to use one day at Texas A&M University.

I'm not sure what the calf was out of. I do know he was a charolais x and bobby maddox placed the steer with the family. It was only the girls second year to show.

I'm new to all of this, but what does a typical calf for a major show like SA cost?  I heard there was one kid showing a steer he paid $50,000.00 for, and it was cut after one lap in the ring!  That seems outragious to me....... but maybe typical.  Can anyone give me a ballpark on what one would pay for a calf worthy of a major show.  I'm sure the sky's the limit, but what is usual?

We had one in the sale and watched the entire sale....Bonham did not purchase the GC in the auction...must have sold it.  GC brought 75,000, Res. was 30,000, all breed champions were 8000+ 10,000 scholarships(several had already won the scholarship so it went to the reserve), Reserve Breeks were 4k + 8K scholarships, 1st-2nd place went for 2000-2900.  Some brought more, even later in the sale.  The 6-10 that sold in 3rd before/after us were 4,500-12,000.
