Saskvally Primo

I have been trying 2 do some research on him and have found info about him but really nothing about his offspring. Would like 2 here some first hand experiences of calving, nature of offspring ext.  Wut does he work on & not ? { Please and thank u } (pop)

Primo is owned by Alta Cedar Shorthorns and Diamond Shorthorns here in AB.

He sold as a 2 year old in Saskvalley's bull sale in the spring of 06.

I have seen Primo several times in person (since he was like 10 miles from my house)

He bred very well, I have not had any calves off him but have seen plenty of projeny from him so I can't comment on calving ease or birth weight. I've never seen or heard of any tempermant issues.

I am expecting som ET calves from Primo this coming spring so I guess I'll know better then.

I am not sure on the status of semen or what is vailable on the open market.

I haven't had any experience with his offspring, but his mother is an easy keeper.  She has a perfect udder and her milk production is above average.
As far as I know the only semen that was made available to the public was the 60 doses that Alta Cedar sold at their bull sale this spring.  They may have it available now but I am not aware that they do.

We will have our first Primo calves in early October. We will have two ET calves from Prairie Lane Sparkle 1K, the dam of Wolf Willow Major Leroy 1M. - One is a bull and the other is a heifer. I also have a couple of August Dunbeacon Venture calves from Sparkle, and they are also looking excellent. Both solid red, a polled heifer with a 86 lb BW and a horned bull with a 90 lb BW. I will try to get some pictures of them in the next few days.

Saskvalley Primo and Saskvalley Pioneer were both sold in the 2006 Saskvalley " Who's Your Daddy" Bull sale. They were both excellent bulls and after much consideration and much time changing my mind, I finally decided we would try to buy Pioneer, which we did. As for BWs on Primo, I have not heard anything to suggest that there have been any problems, so I assume he is a decent calving sire. Also, I would check with Alta Cedar about semen availability in the US as I know they are selling semen in some other countries.

If primo was 10 mile from my home I would be cutting the fence and my dogs would be loading him up on the trailer!

First off SJ I'm glad I don't pasture any cattle near you..  ;D

  Second, where I live there are a lot of open spaces, the sort of spaces where nobody may hear a rifle shot for miles.....

Or a little disturbed sod where somebody dug a hole? That would be hard to find too.


You just don't mess with a guys herd bull.

SJ, you obviously have never met Peter Boake or you would never suggest such a thing.... he is 6'8" and I have seen what he is like on skates, and can just imagine what he is like on solid ground.
