exactly, grid makers are good sized. just because a bull is born 80 lbs doesnt mean he is calving ease. The other thing is when bismarck first came out he was minus on birthweight now he is up to 1.3. schaff has him at .1 though.

Schaff has him at .1 on BW because that's what he is with the association, with a .91 ACC. I know he is a Grid Maker son and Grid Maker is not a calving ease bull but Bismarck has apparently proven his calving ease somewhere. I've only had one and it was a 68 pound bull calf. Hoping for more results like that on first calf heifers. Also had 14 Final Answer calves in the 65-80 pound range with one bull calf weighing 95 pounds, heifer had it on her own and I wouldn't hesitate to breed heifers to FA just because of that one calf.

I have a Bismarck due here in a few days to a heifer so can comment more first hand later, but Bismarck is certainly a calving ease bull.  Lots of progeny and high proof, but certainly based on the cows pedigrees an occasional big one can pop up.  While they may not seem all that impressive as baby calves, they say they get better as they mature.  Our friends at Kramer Angus in IL are selling an awesome son in March, pictured below.  Cool look and think he scanned like a 17" ribeye.  His dam is by Boyd New Day, and is a full sister to my uncle's herdbull that has certainly been calving ease as well.  Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info on this bull, or a contact number!  <beer>

I had posted that my heifer looked like she was going to pop anytime. She was acting a little weird and I took her to the vet, the baby is backwards and he thinks pretty big. I go back Monday to check her again and decide to induce her or to do a c-section...hoping for the best!

The vet did a c section last night on my heifer and it was a boy weighing about 90lbs. He tried to pull her and couldn't get the calf out so did the c-section. To make it worse, the calf was backwards. They are both doing good now.

in the last 3 days we had 6 bismarks, all look good and the birth has been between 72-80lbs on first calf heifers

heard a rumor that Bismark died....I hope that is not true.  does anyone know?
