I'm not quite sure how early they got semen out on Brilliance last spring.  I would be surprised if there are any calves yet, but could be wrong.  I saw him on May 7th last year at Hawkeye, so it is possible by the calendar...

It has been a year since this post was active, but I wanted to find out what others think of the calves this bull throws. We have great support from ABS and we prefer to use one of their bulls. We have two heifers, and one two-year old that we need a calving ease bull for. In addition, these are my son's cows and his primary market is the show circuit.

Two of the three Angus females we are breeding to are mid six frame heifers that are very deep with good thickness. One of the two carries too much in the neck, so we would like to clean up the front ends. The third is a Raven daughter who is extremely long with an excellent hip and excellent extension through her neck. However, she tends to break down behind her front shoulders. One other concern I have is docility. Brilliance has a -1 docility rating due to her Blackcap May/Traveler 004 dam. We have limited facilities for handling cattle and they all end up in the show ring, so it is important for us to be able to be able to put a halter on all animals.

I would appreciate any opinions or if there are any other Angus bulls that you would recommend.

I bred most of my heifers to him.  They are angus sim/angus, a few clubbies.  Had to pull a couple they were real easy pulls couple calves were chimpmunked.  They are real nice good desind.  I will use him again real happy.

I posted on this a while back but did end up trying him on two cows at the end of the breeding season.  I wouldn't worry too much on disposition.  I've seen a bunch at cattle sales and they didn't strike me as wild by any means.  The were actually pretty quiet.  I won't get my calves till late May or early June.

I went through all of Damerons calves last fall and thought he was the most consistent sire group no throw asways out of 30+ calves.  His calves were very strait lined, good fronted, and correct designed.  CE and disposition as previously mentioned appeared to ok.  My thought at that time was he was not adding body like his sire will but will certainly clean up trashy fronted cows with some structure or eye appeal problems.

Any more reports on this bull? ABS is running a special on him right now, maximum of 10 units for $16/straw. I'm interested in sampling him on some heifers next fall.

I ended up having a couple of them.  When they are born they don't look real good.  In fact they were probably the ugliest newborn calves that i've ever had.  However, they get better fast!  Both of my calves ended up being bull calves and were born the May 30 and June 2 so they still have a ways to go.  They're really starting to look nice but it's awful hard to sell summer born bulls around here.
