Had a pretty full day today, was supposed to be in Des Moines at my three nephews birthday party, but my mom and my wife informed dad and I that one of us would be staying home to cows sit..... Good thing! I sold a few calves at the sale barn and picked up a couple of "tradin cows" and brought them home, noticed a heifer off by herself. Dad had not told me that he thought this particular one was all that close but sure enough tail was up and feet were out. As I got closer the sinking feeling hit me that I was looking at back feet..... Our cows are pretty good about coming up when called, but she was not having it. Called vet to have him on stand by and started trumping mud trying to get the heifer to the lot and maternity pen. Was able to get her in by myself, and she sorted herself off, in the maternity pen. Called vet since I didn't know for sure when dad would be home and did not want to tackle a breech alone. As luck would have it, dad and vet got there at the same time. Pulled calf and made it to ducks unlimited banquet on time...... Calf has been up and sucking so all is good. Nice little blaze face heifer calf, marked about like her daddy! After starting 0-3 due to bad luck and coyotes felt good to save a breech out of a heifer and have mamma doing a good job! To save someone else I will go a head and do it.....
