Select Sires Beef Line-Up

Took the Select Sires AI class and have $500.00 in semen certificates.

They have precious few club calf bulls, but thought some one out there has used one of two of them and can advise me on how to use the certificates.
I'm open to any of their Simmental or Angus bulls as well.

according to pedigrees I like hairy and traction, but you would probably be better off investing it in some of their angus or simms

As far as their Angus...I have a really nice, thick heifer out of  T C Total 410.  She's the only TC Total calf I have but she's really good.  I also have a 2 yr old Retail Product heifer and shes made pretty nice but, disposition wise, she's a little crazy.  She's not really mean, she's just unpredictable (one of my friends described her as Bi-polar ;D).  Our semen rep (not Select Sires) told me that most of them he's seen are crazy and that I wouldn't get her halter broke.  I did halter break her, but didn't trust her enough to take her anywhere.  I've seen some good calves out of Mandan recently too.

I have a comment on the Select Sires bull Hairy. Please note that I am not trying to trash the bull, it is only our experience. We used CIDRs and 10 units of Hairy. We settled 3 cows. This might be our fault, but we also settled 7 of 10 from Aftershock, and 3 of 4 from Open Bar. Please draw your own conclusions as we did. We also pulled and lost 2 of the 3 Hairys. They were huge. These are the only 2 out of 40 some that we have lost. Again , draw your own conclusions. It is the cattle business, and s__t  happens. Just my 2 cents worth.

I really like the Great Divide bull and thought about using him.  But we only have so many cows and already had our semen ordered on other bulls.  I think he could make some great females for you.

We used four units of Hairy and got two calves.  We also Synced. Both calves were around 80 lbs. and came easy.  They are great calves.  We also used 5 straws of TC Total and settled all five cows.  They are the best angus calve we have had in awhile.

The TC Total calves are doing very good. I've seen some really nice Game On calves.

[/quote  We used hairy on a meyer cunia cow and got the best heifer we ever raised in 10 years.  She had the calf on her own.  She is a 4 year old cow.]

Simmental wise... Hands down.. Grandmaster.

we have used hot spot with good luck. showed a steer out of him as a fat at naile. we took him to kansas city too but he wasn't quite finished then but looked better at lousiville. he stood middle of his class at kansas city and was fourth in louisville. he should add some middle and the calves we have had were hairy and chubby looking. you have to give them some time because they take a little longer to mature.
