Self feeders

I'm getting ready to wean some bulls and am wanting to put them on a self feeder.  I will have 4 bulls to wean.  Any suggestions on self feeders?

Why do you want to self feed them? Hand feed them twice a day, they will be calmer and in a week or two you can start scratching them. Buyers love gentle bulls.

Believe me, gentleness isn't a problem.  My thinking is you can't hardly give a bull enough feed.  They just do better on a self feeder.  With the performance sales in Illinois the heavy bulls sell.  I've compared notes withalot of people who sell well and they all say self feeder.  Not saying that you can't do it with feeding twice a day but if it makes my day a little easier...I'm there.

I just bought a 35 bushel Apache self feeder and it is really nice... the only problem is that it isn't on skids so they will be added once the calves are off it for sure!

I've been looking at the Apache feeders.  I was also told to look at the feedking feeders through a PM.  Yeah, not having skids can be a problem!

Try Richard Cox Inc. portable cattle feeders on wheels, made in MO - cheaper than Apache feeders - work just fine and last - contact them for local dealers - 660-542-0967

Try Workmeister Welding out of SD...they are the bright blue ones, can't miss them!  Very nicely made, and I'd suggest one on wheels for portability.  Not sure on pricing but much more competitive than Apache.  Sure they have a dealer in IL somewhere, and I think they exhibit at World Beef in Milwaukee in Sept.  Hope it helps!  http://werkweld.com/

Ditto on Richard Cox Manu. The feed king is a heck of feeder.
