A couple of weeks ago, I was talking with Sue about a calf I am keeping back to observe.  I was able to snap a photo with my cell phone yesterday.

In the first photo she has her check near dark red bull? Is this her calf or a different calf?

As I said on the phone- always loved the Scotty cattle, I wish you could have seen his sire in person. It does appear in the second photo that the calf is near the size of  his dam.  She has a nice udder as well . Thanks for sharing

Sue,
The first pic is from a couple of years ago.  The bull in that pic is her calf by Goldmine 2109, which is the sire of her current calf.

Mark the Mel-bar 347 calves came little and grew like crazy. Most of the females did not survive getting culled.  The particular dam line she goes back to is a polled brindle "piney woods cow" weighed about 900 lbs that came from my dad's father.  That line has been great, and the most consistent.

What does not show up in the pedigree is that her great grand dam was a half blood out of a Sutherland Ransom 179 son.

Screenshots of Semex International Catalogues

Scotty was last listed in 2014, but no price listed.
Scotty was not listed in 2013.
Scotty was listed in 2012, for $20 a unit.

I do not know if that helps or not.

This cow, her daughter and granddaughter are all bred  to Rob Sneed's bull  (RS DV 034 329 08).  Looking forward to seeing those calves.

Pictures of a cow family, I snapped yesterday with my cell phone.
First picture is Shadybrook Scotty 83K daughter.  2nd Picture is her Waukaru Goldmine 2109 daughter.  Third picture is a 7 month old bull calf out of the 2109 daughter and RS DV 034 329 08.

No creep and momma on grass only.  Grass is bahia, bermuda, crabgrass mix,

I have had great success with Scotty 83K!
The best bull I bred from him (See www.shorthorn.co.za, herd sire page, D. Tarantino) became a herd sire whom I sold on, after collecting. I have subsequently bred this bull to his maternal sister and kept the resultant male progeny. He was used in my Autumn joining.
I have managed to acquire the South African semen rights to Crooked Post Stockman 4Z, a grandson of 83K, in the last year and, notwithstanding the drought we have had for the last two years, managed to put in 37 doses on the 15th May of this year.
I don't think we will have many females suitable for AI this Spring joining unless we have some normal rainfall.
I feel this calculated linebreeding exercise will make a significant impact on the herd, if not, it will have been a significant wastage of cash.
I am positive it will work out!

Duncraggan,

Scotty 83K maybe the best overall bull, I have used.  I have been running homeraised Scotty 83K grandson out of the 12U cow for cleanup. Probably going to keep the the RS DV 034 329 08 son out of the 23Z cow (Waukaru Goldmine 2109 x Shadybrook Scotty 83K) as his replacement.
