Shorthorn breeding suggestion

I have a eyes on the money x pb shorthorn heifer that I would like to breed back pb shorthorn. In my opinion she lacks depth/ rib and needs her front cleaned up. I was thinking of using capiche.

A lot of mixed reports on Capiche, you might try saskvalley yesterday he has a CE of 5.6 and a BW -1.4 so should be ok for heifers. we got three we are going to breed to him in the coming weeks.

I like the thought of yesterday, he seems to have a lot of depth but I don't know if he will tighten up her brisket which I think she needs. The reason I was thinking capiche is because I can get sexed heifer semen on him.

Mark, I am from Alberta, Canada. No color really doesn't matter to me.

Captain obvious could help her maybe although I don't know if he will clean her up, but a bull that will add depth of rib probably isn't going to clean any up.

Can you give ma site where I can see whats available in Canada?-If you could get low BW clubbie-Shorthorn,or with a shot of Maine like Sull Payday-thats what  would suggest.Hes gonna make a pretty calf with lots of good old Shorthorn and maine (LTD Edition)Songers seem to be the pioneers up there-but thier club oriented bulls arent heifer safe,from what Ive seen.Another bull possibly to use with caution would be B-Good Soldier in Eastern Canada( I believe)-they have a ton of grow and hes been used on Maines and crossbreds-massive,Huge butt. O0

Captain Obvious semen  is not available in Canada and will not be available alot longer "south of the border" , buy it while supplies last - He is TH, PHA and DS free.  From the photo I dont see a brisket problem? Best of Luck

I actually bought this heifer from Songers this summer. She is 50% shorthorn so I would like to breed her full blood shorthorn to get a 75% calf. If anyone has any other suggestions All are appreciated. The heifer is a TH carrier and I would like to keep her calf fairly showy, but I'd like to add some depth more than anything.

I know Xbar isn't a fan of capiche because he misses his track by a large margin. This heifer however is extremely good on the move, her back hooves hit the print of her front when she strides, and has great flex to her pasterns. I am wondering if the calf will be ok on the move or if I should maybe look at a different calving ease option.

I don't know how this would work for you. We used him on a Sonny-JPJ heifer and got a heifer out of it.

Added new pic at a week older. She will be a beast in the end.

Maybe not the calving ease of Capiche, but JSF Gauge has been used on bigger heifers with success. He has an 88 lbs. birth weight, which in my opinion is fine for heifers.

I would suggest a know easy calving red angus bull for the first time, and then ace of diamonds for her second calf

I have had 19 calves by him, average 35kg (77lbs), heaviest two at 42kg (92lbs), both bulls in Autumn calving season where my BW's are usually considerably higher due to nutrition.
His calves are on average 5kg (11lbs) lighter than my heifer safe bull (51 calves) that I use on all my heifers!
I would definitely use him on heifers if I got more doses, I only bought 30 and they are finished.

Not sure if anyone is interested but I am trying to sell this heifer bred this spring. I think I am going to stick with breeding her to capiche sexed female semen. If anyone is interested let me know. The only reason I am selling this heifer is to help pay for University.

I have never used him, but what about TM Gus 36S? From what I can tell this bull really cleans up the front ends in cattle without compromising the depth factor. Although, personally I don't think your heifer is heavy in the front, at least not from that photo you have posted. Has anyone ever used TM Gus 36S?
