Hello,

I have a friend that works for a major semen company and they do not have a shorthorn bull and sounds like they will not in the near future. In order to service many pb clientele of smaller herds that are asking for an answer she needs to acquire an arrangement directly with a breeder. The bull needs to be popular enough with US purebred breeders to sort of "sell itself" I was hoping for a connection with a canadian breeder with exportable semen so it would be an outcross. Typical show deal breeders is my understanding for most of them, they want real performance though. I don't know anything about it, can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

I can understand why a semen company would want a bull that "sells itself", but if you are a breeder that has a bull that "sells itself" why would you need a semen company?  I'm not saying that we are that breeder or that we have a bull like this but just in general, If you are that breeder and are willing and able to market semen on a bull that sells itself, then why use a semen company?
We have a semen on a bull available in the states that is a performance bull, but I don't think that the typical show breeder ( at least my understanding of the typical show breeder ) would be intersted to the degree that the semen would "sell itself".

Because at the end of the day most breeders are not competent at A.I. and need someone to do it for them. She just doesn't know or want to spend a lot of time "selling" this actual bull. She just wants something to go to these breeders with.
