What do the shorthorn breeders on this board think of the new on line registry? Am I the only one that finds it difficult to use? I have worked with computers for 20+ years so have a pretty good grasp on most things but it seems everything I do is more confusing.

I have been able to figure out most things so far, except for how to register a Plus calf out of a purebred cow and an Angus bull. I really like how easy it is to transfer pedigrees though, rather than mailing the pedigree back to them, processing it, and then sending a new pedigree to the new owner. Now I can go online, make 3 clicks, and boom! In the new owners name and out of my to do list.

I was trying to register my plus heifer before hbc and I couldn't really figure out how to even register as a member really
I just said screw it and showed her as a commercial but I really don't put that's time into it maybe I should try harder before Kentucky rolls around

I have a question though, I bought 2 shorthorn plus steers so am I a member or not? And of I am how do I get a online account to register my heifer online

It takes some time to setup but, once you work through it the program makes sense.  Spencer unless you paid to be a member or the breeder you purchased the steers from paid for you to be a member then you would need to call the ASA office to become a member and at that time they will set you up with an online account.

I think the concept is there, but it could be more user friendly.
We have a herd of about 15 we have registered, and entering births, weans and registering our heifers we are keeping back was an all day task.

I'm not a part of the ASA, but I have used that system for the CLA (Canadian Limousin Assoc.) and absolutely love it! Is it the most friendly system out there... likely not, but what I like is it gives me the ability to sit down at my computer and work through weaning numbers etc... as it happens. We wean different calves at different times due to different calving rotations etc... and I really like that a person can do that in this Digital Beef system. I like that I can also pull reports on my herd to see from year to year differences. I can compare sires; am I gaining where I need to gain or am I loosing ground? Another thing I truly love about the system is the ability to track commercial non-registered cattle within it.

The negative about it would be that it isn't exactly 'user friendly'. Once a person gets onto it, they are away and going, but it takes a lot of clicking around and figuring things out. I do think it's a step in the right direction though. If the ASA is anything like the CLA, anytime I've had questions or problems they've gotten back to me right away to lend me a hand and explain things out in a simple way.  (clapping)
