If the cows are big I would think down sizing is a must. Double Stuff will work on your clean cows, I would think very well. If defects concern you and cost is an issue try our Wild Side bull. He is clean both ways, polled, moderate and sound. He is still running with cows at age 8. He is $15 a unit and certs are still $15 NOT $50 like most. I would be glad to send you photos of some of calves by him over the last few years. His daughters are flat out getting it done for us.

Available through Genetic Horizons  SEK Genetics

The third photo is of our new Jakes Proud Jazz son call  PROUD JOE
He is JPJ out of a Gizmo x D. Vision bred cow.

radioactive at our place was thow aways, not even good feedlot steers.  We sold a JPJ out of a Double Down coe the last 2 years that are powerfull.  If the cow is clean i would defiantly think of D Stuff.

What is the purpose of shorthorn plus cattle? Why do we show appendix cattle? Why do we show purebred cattle? What came first the chicken or the egg? Why weren't any of the dixie chicks elected to congress or a junior college? Why is there air? What is the adress for the shorthorn breeders mutual admiration society?

After seeing two JPJ heifers at the state fair in Dallas this weekend, I would use him to produce steers. Those heifers were extremely fleshy and would have made some of the best steers I have seen.

And hairy!!!

NHR, I was there for the slick steer show with some friends - great show. I would use JPJ on larger cattle for sure. I think a bull like Hannibal would work on his daughters IMO

Some of you might like to try a bull we raised called Oakview 2 + 2 x(7/8).  He's sired by Remember Me out of a Leader Plus cow.  He sires more real muscle than most and is definitely a down sizer.  Shultz Shorthorns (Tony Shultz) owns him now (Shultz Shorthorns website) and his calves have done very well the past few years.  He sired one of the top point steers in a 'Southern state' and also an All-American nominee heifer.  I originally sold him to Dean Fieser in Kansas.  You can ask Dean or Tony what they think of his calves.  I know he's TH free, don't know offhand the PHA status.  We haven't used him much because he's a lot smaller than I like, but if I wanted to raise steers, I'd use him heavily.

The purpose of ANY BREED OF CATTLE is to cross and make use of good characteristics of another breed, to create hybrid vigor, yatta yatta. Finally people are creating what my forefathers felt was the ultimate cross- blue roans. Everybody dumped on shorthorns for years, and now angus are becoming blind mens cattle, but a blue roan, smoke, mouse etc will break the bank almost everywhere. O0 <beer>
