The bottom line to me is that the Simmental - Angus cross seems to be magical.  Makes the perfect animal.  There are many, many Simmental bulls that work very well on Angus cows.  I've seen numerous Simmental bulls that don't work well when bred Simmental, but make a good one everytime on an Angus cow.  Seems that the two breeds bring out the best in each other.

As far as this direct question...Dream On or any of his numerous sons would be an excellent choice in my opinion.

I've bred Simmental bulls to Angus cows for a long time.  Really like them.  Still have some Nichols Legacy (Dream On's Sire) x Angus cows in herd.

I have used Meyer 734 when he was $15/straw on Simmy cows and hated him!  He took the MILK and Guts out of my cows, sold them all!  This experience makes me agree with the above poster that mentions how certain Simmy bulls do not work on Simmy cows but will work on Angus Cows.  I went back to Meyer 734 years later on Angus cows.  Actually, IMHO he only works well on really deep sided, easy fleshing, smaller framed, heavier structured Angus cows and especially Angus x "Old Style Maine" influenced cows.  So, IMHO, if you have taller framed, flat sided, light skeletal, hard-doing Angus cows...don't use Meyer or any of his sons.  If you do have cows that are more this type, then use Dream On.

Having said this, I have found Conclusion 437, Backlash, Maximus, will all breed similarly and are not always consistent.  I have not yet tried any of the myriad of Meyer 734 x Harrietta sons available, although there are so many full Sib's, I never really knew which one to use.  LOL!  Therefore, when wanting to use a Meyer 734 "Type of bull", and not spend the $ for Meyer 734 himself, I would recommend 3-C Macho.  I believe 3-C Macho will breed the same or sometimes better than Meyer 734 (he has more muscle expression than Meyer 734 himself), also, he is more consistent than any of the half blood Meyer 734 sons.  Note:  RSVP bred and raised by Christensen's being a Meyer 734 x Red Angus cow is smaller framed and does have more rib than the other Meyer 734 sons that I am familiar with, however he is not as "stout" as the other Meyer 734 sons mentioned.  I have used they Meyer 734 influenced bulls on both Angus and crossbred cows depending on the individual cow and the bull.

I prefer to breed PB Simmy bull onto my Angus cows.  This said, I have always had a tough time trying to find the "right" Simmy bull that I liked.  They either did not have enough guts, were poor hipped, ugly fronted, or not stout enough.  Now, more choices have become available in the last couple years (however, many of them are half bloods that I like).  I do like Dream On, 3-C Macho, & Built Right, to name a few, all have their place, and must be bred to the "right" cow.  This past year I tried some Simmy bulls with NO Meyer influence that I will know more about next year.

This year I used 3-C Macho (again), NLC Upgrade, and Grand Master.  I believe all three have a place, they are three different types, and all will work depending on your cows, and what you are breeding for.  BTW: On the Simmy X  bull side...I flushed a cow to Trendsetter.

I am looking forward to next years calves!
