I bred a two year old first calf heifer this weekend and time bred her at both 72 and 84 hours post CIDR removal.  On the second A.I. her cervix felt considerably larger, and it was also easier to penetrate with the gun.

Is this typical variation in the cervix size?

OK, part two:

My six year old came home a couple of weeks ago with some chicks from TSC (thanks Grandpa!).  So I have them under a light in the cool room to keep them warm and protected.

Four of the chicks look like normal pullets, but two are just tiny and have very distinct markings.  As far as I know they are all about the same age.  What the heck are these?

The two little ones are bantams. I was at TSC when they got them in. Most of the TSC's had standard chickens and bantam variety. They won't get very big but do lay eggs. Some bantam breeds are better than others. I would have to look at our chicken catalog to be more specific on what breed of bantam.

If you could get a pic without that red heat lamp light on them I could help you.  I can seldom pick out breeds of chicks under a red heat lamp or I would comment now.

The little guys are bantams.  My brother has some, and they'll lay about 2/3 the size of a standard egg, but you'll probably only average and egg every other day.  Pretty birds though, that's for sure! They make good lawn ornaments if nothing else...  <beer>
