I was thinking about breeding to Smokin Bob but wanted to know what his birth weights are and if I would be safe breeding it too a second time cow. Thanks for any replies.

Hmm thats different than I expected sizzler… He looks like a bull that is super sound and would soften up the cow and add sourness to me but I haven't calved any out, still waiting to figure out what Im going to flush him to.

We have 2 smokin bob steers this type are going to fair. One is 50% shorthorn out of 2nd calf on shorthorn cow other is 25% shorthorn.  Both very easy births and cows bred back to him...

Oh I wasn't implying the calves weren't sound. They were very very sound calves. I meant softness in appearance. The cows I saw him used on was a BC lookout and a char cow. Both just good cows. The calves came out thick but really harder made calves.and really knocked the legs off the cows who were moderate cows to begin with. I think the bull will work for sure but I think you have to use him on a bigger made real soft type cow. He improved soundness calves had a shot of belly as well

My Dad's philosophy, and I don't disagree, if you really like a bull, why don't you breed cows similar to his dam to the bull's sire.  In this case, why not use Smilin Bob (1CM P 346671) on Charolais cross cattle?  Instead of diluting the gene's you're trying to get something very similar in phenotype.  Just asking.

This is a two-day old Smokin Bob x Irish Whiskey/High Valley 4C6 Ambush.  The dam is about 1800# cow and calf is 85-90 lbs.  It was up and nursing in about 45 minutes, which is quite a bit slower than the Angus calves, but is healthy and very active.

I used him on this Dr who x pb char cow and was really happy with the calf. Her best one to date . I flushed her back that way in fact and have a few more coming next spring. The hfr calf was pictured today for a sale on Oct 6, I'll post her pic when I get it back.

I have had very good luck with Smoking Bob.  Mine are clubby but sound.  I have used him on moderate framed cows and the calves are good but I think he would work on larger framed cows also.  Just make sure they are good cows!
