This is the first time in my recent memory, that I can say that I do not know of any place in Western Canada that is dry. We have had unusually abundant rain, so much that some farmers may not get to finish planting their crops. In Saskatchewan alone, there is about 7 million acres not seeded right now, and much of this will not get seeded even if the rain stops. We saw the sun for the first time in about 3 weeks yesterday, and the next couple days look very good. More rain is predicted for Wednesday, Thursday and thunder showers for the weekend. I went from scrambling to find more pasture to having lots in about two weeks, which is a very good feeling. Our pastures and hay crops are the best we have seen in at least 10 years... or maybe even more. All I know is that it sure beats dry by a long shot. Our country is semi arid, so we see our share of dry conditions. Right now, I have to try to restrain my grin when I see my grain farming neighbors who have not got their crops planted or can't get into the fields to spray. I am going to enjoy the lush conditions while we have them, and I will try to remind myself on a daily basis not to complain about the mud and the rain. This is a pleasant surprise for us, even though it makes working the cattle much harder to do.
