Some old pictures

I was going through some old photos this morning. I found this of a cow that was in the process of calving. Special note- there is one laying beside her & hooves sticking out of her too. Only bad thing was it was a bull & heifer.

We bought the cow from Harding's in Holly, MI. She was out of K&A COLBY Y129. (Note- DL the calves were out of good old Burner! I think they both weighed 90+ pounds.) she was our 2nd Maine cow. We were so proud of those twins. She went on to have 2 steers placed first in our county fair. Also had another set of twins but aborted those. The picture was taken in 1997.

Oh my, here is another blast from the past! This was our first Maine-Anjou cow we bought. We didn't even have our barn ready so had her up at the farm in the machinery building.
This was taken in 1996 & she was born in 1989. She orginally came from Wilkinson's in KY. She was out of ZTA Magnum 44 (who was a fullblood) & a cow out of Del Rel Astro. Huge framed cow & very leggy. We never could find that right match up for her. Just didn't understand the Maine genetics back then. But boy was I proud of her!!!!
Thought this was fun, anyone else have some old pictures of their first cattle?

Now this is a fun topic!  The 1st picture is our very 1st show heifer Red Riches, we bought her at the American Royal sale from Majors Maines along with the full series of Steirwalt videos and we were ready to go.
The next photos are of our 1st bred and owned heifer, we were so proud of her, she somehow got a fungus in her throat when she was 4 or 5 months old, we rushed her to K-State where and they had to do a trach on her, she somehow survived all of that and will probably die right here at home at a ripe old age (she is everyones favorite) the next is a picture of her today, it is raining here (again) like Red we were never able to find a bull that clicked with her so she is a recip, her calf has the butt view.
For me I guess this is what showing comes down to, it is really fun to win, but it is the life lessons learned and the memories like the ones we have had with Miss Promise that really make this a special way of life.  Thanks, Red good topic!

Isn't it fun to go back & look at old pictures? You're amazed at how far you've really come. Plus I like to revisit the old genetics we used to have.

Red my Dad bought a bred cow from the auction last year that looks a lot like your Alice.  And Jill I really like that black cow.

We bought from Corey when he was there. This would have been 1997 or close to then. We also bought a bull named MCG Burner. Nice bull but terrible BW's!!! He had a BW EPD of 7.5. :
