nice herd you got going there zach...and i like your "cow-guard"   <cowboy>
Nice scenery. THe pastures there, in your part of Ohio, look JUST like the ones down here in NW Arkansas ans SW MIssouri. Are Y'uns' Blackberries( the wild ones ) ripened yet? I like seeing cows that can eat brush and endophyte-infected fescue and be that fat & slick.

ty, the pasture is good this year, unlike last year when it all got cooked and then didnt have enough hay to get through winter, and good thing to cause all the cows in march looked like skin and bones. I havent seen alot of berrys yet, i think all the birds got em lol

How old is the 2nd cow from the top?  Those calves look really good!!  I've got a horse, from a previous post, that beats up dead coyotes in a tree!!  I like your smokey cow!

Nice set of cow;s an calve's , especially like your Smoke cow, she don't look as framey as I would expect from her breeding, but I would mate her to something that would downsize the frame an with her breeding getting good hair an a consistant color.  Just trying to help , it's just my opinion, some one else might have a better idea.

we bred her full sister ( just as good imo) to alias and shes due in march, so we'll see then, but i was thinking heatwave or heatseeker for her, but when the alias calf comes, it might influence my opinion

btw, the smoke calf was big, i dont have scales or anything but i would say he was every bit of 100lbs, just going by sight though, so not sure

thanks for the compliments too  <cowboy>

Don't let the "Smoke" of past years cloud your judgement. Here, in  NW AR, there are TONS of good, moderate Smokes, Silvers and Yellow cows ( of various shdes and hues) all over the place. We, as region, are just now finally going "Black" (at the expense of heterosis), and cows like Zach's grey cow outnumber the better-type black brood cows about 4 to 1.

Nothing wrong with good Charolais-cross cows. If I had any, I'd go to Sneed's in Sedalia and buy a Performance-oriented Shorthorn bull, to make more yellow ones. Hybrid vigor is a good thing. Hair, down here, is a detriment to running on Endophyte-infescted fescue. The cows just stay in the pond all summer long. Well, in the pond, or under the shade.
