Speakers/radios at shows

What kind of radios/ speakers do you all have that you take to shows to play music. Ones loud enough to be heard over the noise!! Thanks!

Please consider that many folks do not appreciate the loud music, or genre of music you might play.

Based upon many years of experience, radios are more of a nuisance to your neighbors than welcome music.

One family this summer played music very loud and included rap music littered with f- bombs.

I finally went over and pulled the plug so the neighboring kids did not had to hear that nonsense.

Don't go too loud and watch the language. 

You certainly have the right to listen to music, but not the right to infringe upon your neighbors.

Our Bosch job site radio has taken a beaten and still sounds great (we take to shows and use daily in the barn), but we are looking into an Ion Bluetooth speaker so we don’t have to leave a phone plugged in all the time. There are lots of options on Amazon.

I agree with this 100%. 

Ever notice that most of the time the people with the obnoxiously loud and inappropriate music usually have really bad cattle?  If I was showing cattle that bad I wouldn't be doing anything to draw attention to myself or my cattle.

No problem  We always have the radio going in the barn at home, sure doesn’t hurt to have it playing in the background at shows too. We go to a lot of shows where we set up in a tent or outside at the trailer and it’s nice to have something that you can hear over the generators.

Milwaukee jobsite radio, it's blue tooth compatible and you can hear it over the generator.

I agree with leaving the loud music at home.  If you can hear it over a generator, it's too loud for your neighbors.  While the 15-20 people were fitting the heifer that eventually was supreme champion at our county fair, the music coming from their little section of the barn, right in the middle of everyone else, was so loud it went way beyond annoying.  When the show sheen in the bottle 30 feet away has white caps, the music's too loud.  I enjoy cranking up Skynnyrd or Zeppelin sometimes myself, but it's more considerate to do it in my car or my den at home.  Is it better to annoy 100 people or just my wife?

My comments were not directed to you, and I sincerely apologize for not specifying that.  I was thinking back at our State Fair over the years.

Again, please don't feel as if I was directing any negative comments your way.  I certainly have no problem with background music at a show.

We have this Sony party speaker. it doesn't have an FM tuner, so we run Pandora. My family has a problem with bickering and short tempers at shows. Without music, arguments start, calves become anxious, and noone has any fun. I can drown out the complaints and keep my vibe up, keep my kids calm and relaxed, and enjoy the day. If arguments start, I just start dancing, and everyone starts laughing.

And we dont have crappy cattle.

      I have to admit, there were some fitters at the last show we went to and no lie, the speakers were the size you'd see on concert stage. Rap music blaring. Probably a little big for what the OP is  looking for. To walk around and take in what the eyes are seeing  compared to what the ears are hearing is .......nvrmd.
    We just use a beat up Dewalt const. radio. Puts out plenty of sound. 2 for one, music and  keeps our cordless batteries charged at home for the roto brush.

It doesn't have to be inappropriate to be annoying.  The worst I've run into for a long time were playing contemporary Christian music.  So loud we had to yell at one another 80' away.  When I asked them to please turn it down, I was first told we should rejoice in their choice of music... They turned it down a little when I asked then 20 minutes later it was louder than before. After this happened a couple of times I very kindly explained that if I had to ask again I was going to take my shovel and make their big high dollar speaker into little worthless pieces. I didn't have to ask again.

I like music.  We play a radio in our barn almost constantly and I don't mind it at shows at a civilized level.  If your music is too loud, you know it, and you're just being a jerk if you keep it up.  If you're being a jerk, you have to expect somebody to call you on it.

Just had this issue at the American Royal this weekend.  The aisle over from us was so loud that we couldn't talk to someone on the other side of the blocking chute.  Guy stalled next to us yelled over and said "Turn It Down"...to which they replied "What??".  He grabbed their cord and yelled "Turn it down or I am cutting the cord on that thing".  Never had another problem.

Thankfully, it usually works.  Being a jerk’s not fun when you get called on it.

We have interesting acoustics in the barns at Oklahoma City (state fair and OYE) - there are 6” (or more) thick solid concrete walls about 7’ high separating each aisle.  You don’t hear much from the next aisle, but it kind of amplifies sound within the aisle.

At least the too cool people don’t have to put tarps in front of their cattle so they can save more of them to put on the fence panels they all use for stall dividers now...
