speaking of carnac

We had our first carnac this spring. Initially, I was disappointed, 78 lbs and frail looking. (It was a steer mating! I know I shouldn't complain about that kind of BW). Thought  a jersey got in with them ,but he was right on the AI date. Since then, 3-4 weeks this guys really starting to mass up, top, hip has exploded and his bone, while not "exploding" is coming on as well. Chiangus dam with long "family history" (including flushes to multiple bulls) of low BW. My question  ....(finally) is this typical for carnacs? Expecting more BW and mass as a newborn w/ the HW in there. Again, not complaining , I'll take a live good one over a great dead one anytime.  Do they start slow and improve like this?  We have some more coming. One due any day on a foreplay cow. Thoughts??? p.s. btw, our best ones this spring-  heifers......Hannibal X Chiangus, Hard Core X Foreplay, Money Talks X Mailman/Windsor (full sib in blood to a steer that just made sale at Houston), and
                                  a  stocking legged, star headed,white flanked 1/2 maine out of our PB Maine bull(Power PlusXHabanero) and a Heat SeekerXSimme dam(she's as good as our AI calves),
                                                          bulls........ 3C Macho X PB An 1/2 Simme. ET(guys that are caring for recips claim he's a freak), Addicted(CA) X PB An, and Addicted(CA) X Chiangus

Had 4 carnacs none over 80 lbs. one this spring and the rest in the fall.  Looked horrible at first and then you forget about them. Then, a month later you are looking a your sheet making sure what bull there out of.  I agree  I like the bws but it makes you wonder what is going on when born.

Glad to here it. I am planning on breeding over half of my cows to him this year. I have seen lots of them in the fall and they look better than most of the heatwaves by percentages. I am sure alot of the HW's are something else.

We only had 1 she was a 98 pound heifer, but she has looked good from day 1

BE CAREFULL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! Had another carnac this w-e ......got that stout, steery one, 113 and slow, still workin' w/ him. Huge bone and hip, freaky look AND slow on the nursing. Makes a 78pounder you don't have to touch or think twice about seem real good, right about now.JB
