Well.... Not to be the one to throw the thread off a bit, but my shell shocked was born yesterday morning at about 4 AM at the vet via C-Section. Now, there are a couple things worth mentioning here. I shot the heifer with Dex Tuesday night because she was a few days over her due date and I wanted to make sure I could be around when she calved. We watched her very close, and were right there when she started pushing. I let her push for about 20-30 mins and, not having seen feet yet, I put a hand in her to make sure all was presented correctly. I found front legs and a tongue, however, they were all turned 90 degrees from normal upright presentation. So the calf was coming laying on its side. It also felt to be a decent sized calf, nothing crazy but a little bigger than the 60 pound calf I was expecting haha. After a while of seeing if I could get the calf rotated, I decided I didn't think it was going to happen. This heifer wasn't the biggest heifer, but definitely not the smallest. She probably weighs 1000 pounds or so, maybe 1100. I haven't weighed her in quite a while.
Anyways, when we got her to the vet he felt and said there was no moving the calf to upright position and he recommended an C-section with as long as she had been pushing. Pulled out a very long, but fairly slender 85 pound bull calf. He is solid black, with a fairly long face like FSR's calf earlier in this thread. I can't take say much negative about the calving ease of the calf, he is very slender, just super long. Quite a bit of vigor, particularly for a C-section calf, although his mother is a little confused after having a rough start on her first calf. I will keep ya'll updated on the calf's growth moving forward.
