thanks again.. I went back to re look at the pics., and those two are better than I remember.  The yellow steer, I got the notion, needed more for rib, in his first picutre... e ither that, or he just needed his head picked up??  I figured that if you were going to show him slicked, then he's fine in that area.  down towards the bottom, my thoughts were re-inforced.  This calf has quite alot of quality, IMO>  I've been down to TX, and seen plenty of the slicked steers.. and it does take a differnt kind to win it, and I think this calf has plenty of peices...  Will he win a major, IDN, does he need maybe a touch more depth from front to rear- prob wouldn't hurt.  Really like the bone, extension, and appearance of tons of shape, and true muscle.

now to the ABC.  Honestly, this guy looks like a lighter hipped, big/ floppy sheated British calf.  I'm going to guess that he's got just enough Amer in him to give him the look.  Also, a very nice steer, really good hiipped, boned, and toplined for a calf of his pedgiree (whatever it was)  Maybe just pull him apart from front to rear, and he gets better...  But then again, I only get to see one angle, as compared to you who views his whole body on a day to day basis.

How were they bred again?

ps...  I sure wouldn't mind eating that yellow calf.. He loooks like he could "fill my hand" behind that shoulder.

haha well he may not win houston. but he is just a county calf for a june show. both are so how do you think they will do there. the yellow jacket is out of a godfather cow and the american is one we raised ourselves. out of a brangus gert cow and a sim angus bull. out of a profit maker son actually come to think of it. the yellow jacket has not been beaten in class in 7 shows. and the american has not ben shown since he is too wild for us to take him yet. but we are done with prospect shows so we dont  wear the yellow calf out (just wanted to see how good he was compared to major calves). the american steer is a full brother to the calf pictured. who was champion american at my county last year. along with third overall. same cow same bull. then my brother had reserve american with a half brother to him

I couldn't begin to tell you how they would do at Houston, or any of the other slicked shows.  (If I remember, we attended two slicked shows while in JuCo to judge- Houston, and I forget the other???)  I remember some very, very good slicked steers, some that would put the haired ones to shame...  It takes a damn good one to win a slicked show, as in a haired show you can... well you just can  <party>  I do think this yellow steer is a cool dude though.  I feel more confident letting someone who's been through that deal more times comment furtherthan that.
I see a very resemblance in the two black calves.  Both, have the same problem, IMO, they appear to bring the hock in closer than ideal.  I would say other than that, expect the same...  and what else can you do, I mean they are full brothers (argue)

Show Stopper I think you are going to have a lot of fun with both of those steers at a county show. I really like the black calf for an American in a slick show. And well I have always liked that yellow calf since the first pic you ever posted of him and I think he is going to slick out really nice.
As far as this kid "grading" steers.  Does he have any clue what he is talking about? All I see in ANY of his post anywhere is hair and bone.  And did he really grade them "A+, A-, and B+++"? What kind of test did he give them that they did so well on????

now that is cheating...  knowing what you are getting, before it comes???  (lol) u nless you operate like we do around here, and they ask what I need, and give accordingly...

You know, I remember when I was little, and my friends were getting toys, computors, games, xboxes, etc.... what did I ask for?  A ball bull point marker (with ink), and a book on sexing birds (poultry).  (cow)

yes and they think they can run things with a bad attitude. he is actually not so bad after we made a fine 'understanding' with him. his mama was mean like that out in the pasture. after you get them under control and get a good handle on who owns who. they are very respecful tho
