Farm boy, maybe you could go find a local county preshow. I would think there would be one close by. I use to be a photo buff, but haven't taken a picture in years.
Those great shots are hard to come by. Remember Farm Boy, you have to go out and literally stalk for those great pictures. They don't come to you. Kind of like going out hunting. All the conditions need to be right, such as lighting, interesting compositions that tell some kind of story. Focusing on the eyes is typically your best bet for cows or people. The eyes almost always need to be in focus, but not always if they're a secondary point of interest.  Good luck.

THERE ARN'T MANY SHOWS AROUND MY AREA AND BY NO MEANS A OPEN SHOW. WE WILL BE LUCKY TO HAVE 20 STEERS AT THE FAIR I THINK I HAVE A GOOD SHOT WITH MY HEIFER. I'LL HAVE SOMTHING A LITTLE LATER IN THIS CONTEST.

Then try a different category! Take advantage of whatever works for you. If that cute donkey is still around...well  go out and take a picture of him. Do something creative; something funny, something serious etc. Remember DL has her Beefpacas. She'll be tuff to get around along with everyone else who enters. Wonder if they will have a category where you could use photoshop?

The first one is me after showmanship i took 4th place in the senior division at a state heifer show and almost 200 seniors there.
2nd one is of me with my heifer b4 the class.
3rd one is me and my friend talking as we were waiting.
