I am deciding between K-Kim Hot Commodity and Red White and Roan. Haven't made up my mind yet. Marc's Hot Commodity is interesting too!!DBL J1 said:Which bull did you select to breed her to ?
Is he proven heifer safe?mark tenenbaum said:This is Homeplace Hot Commodity -he will be on Cattle Visions within a week-hes a heifer bull from and OLD documented herd There are 3 Pacer Performance dams from this herd in his immediate pedigree-The main thing is-LOOK HOW HES MADE ALONG HIS TOP LINE-and that hip and how his tail head blends in He grew up in real world commercial conditions and already has calves on the ground and a bunch more coming.-HE WILL CORRECT alot of the things the respondants have mentioned:he is thick, very correct, and he is a complete outcross to your heifer O0
Thanks for the suggestions! This heifer's sire is Red Revolver which is a son of Red Reward. Her Dam is SULL DJS Cherri Goose, daughter of DJS Cherri and SULL Grey Goose. Would Red Hot be too closely related?Doc said:Between the bulls you have mentioned I would definitely go with Hot Commodity. I have used him on a bunch of 1st calf heifers with no issues. Also the H.C. cows are proven as being good momma cows.
With that being said, the 2 H.C. sons that have been discussed on here - Dales Hot Commodity son and SLF Red Hot Commodity are 2 other good choices. Red Hot is a H.C. son that is a out of a SULL Payday cow that is out of a Red Reward cow. He has been used on 1st calf heifers, cows and some commercial cows. He produced Champion Shorthorn and Shorthorn Plus heifers at the 2019 TN Agribition sale in his first crop. Below is a picture of him taken last winter on cows. Tim is getting a new picture of him very soon. Semen is available at $25/straw and no certificate.
To me any of the H.C. choices are better than Red, White and Roan. I'm just not a JPJ fan (other than Damn Proud). JMHO.
I wouldn't be afraid to use him on her.SlickTxMaine said:Thanks for the suggestions! This heifer's sire is Red Revolver which is a son of Red Reward. No harm in reinforcing the low BW trait, go outcross on the calf, if it is a heifer and you get within breed hybrid vigour! If it's a bull worth looking at you have inbred CE genetics. It's a win-win situation!Doc said:I wouldn't be afraid to use him on her.SlickTxMaine said:Thanks for the suggestions! This heifer's sire is Red Revolver which is a son of Red Reward.
