im looking for suggestions on how to breed this cow to make females? shes an irish whiskey x occ rudy. im looking to breed her maine but am open to suggestions on all breeds. bull suggestions need to be PHA free.

mark, thanks for the reply. blue moon looks to be cool, i liked the video. has he sired any calves yet? where can i get semen on him?

Fwiw, the calf below was one of Blue's and was very green/young in this pic. Her mother is of a different phenotype than your cow though. I happen to have walked around Blue's mother yesterday. She's a good cow that combines several interesting cow families.

Her mother looks much cleaner fronted than the black female and more feminine overall. Not as deep or powerful. Touch larger framed, but it's tough to tell by pictures.

You could write a whole book about the names on the shorthorn side of that pedigree. The old Kilmhill line via Warrior. The start of the Pretty Woman line through the Trump and Ladd cross. Several shots of T90 which comes with Trump, Durango, Improver 57. Red Rider's Drive over the Green Ridge Mary cow who came from the famed Una line. You really couldn't pack many more time tested or proven names into the branches of that pedigree. I guess I'd say, Blue was no accident.

Nice female. Her L/L brand means she came out of Griswold's SD herd . Lots of good suggestions above. Some half blood main ideas I'd throw in for steers would be unstoppable thc, second to none thc, drivin 80 the, black power play ( the new one) thc, and ready to rumble. I
Think angus bulls like style , primo ,  insight , brilliance, and roundtable could make some really nice females as well as some of the horns mentioned above (just have to watch the dsc ones on her if she's phac).  Good luck

If you have access to FR Magic 179X, he would be my choice to make females.

now how would all of you mate her to make steers? (breed doesnt matter for steers)

I don't want to sound like a broken record here as they are probably the two hottest steer bulls out there right now but I would have to suggest Fu Man Chu or Here I Am. Both give calves an incredible side profile look and when combined with Whiskey they should be incredible side profiling. Personally I think Whiskey and Fu pass on the best looking side profile in the industry right now, and the Here I Am's are very square from behind and THICK.

If you can get your hands on it Getcha Some had an impressive limited set this fall. Ask Wade about the Fu son King Fu out of the legend 7587 cow, dam of Walks Alone, Believe In Me, etc. Only thing that would concern him with me is attitude, but most of the Fu's I have personally worked with hands on have had good temperament- but 7587 is a Draft pick son x Full Flush. That is one impressive female. For females I don't think you could go wrong with a Simmi bull- half blood simmi's seem to be all the rage right now.

Sheep, I was actually thinking both fu man chu and here I am but wasn't sure how they bred with whiskey genetics. Also which one does better adding neck extension and what do each bull do to structure?

From my experience the Fu's tend to be more consistent but the HIA can be freakier. Fu carries a little more mass through that area. Both have fairly good extension, again HIA probably being freakier.  Structure wise I would have to say both are pretty good, both have sired state fair winners, both are pretty big footed and boned but don't give up soundness.  Honestly they're two different bulls and I wouldn't be afraid to try both.
