The anwender bulls are pretty neat do like the 106 heifer, the problem with the anwender heifers is that they show hard so I would suspect those heifers just were not just a hundred percent, I think they look like they are we'll feed and should make nice cows. Horshoe creek has some really nice females in there aswell and the are a tad greener but looks like a few show heifers in the for sure
Only the 108 heifer was shown to my knowledge out of the Anwender program (females). There are many exciting lots in the sale my top two picks are 24 and 106 todays opinion only
Those touchdown heifers are really nice. I like 104,106,109,110,114,115,117
Double bred Buster 14k in there as well ought to be a good breeding piece
General 4U continues to impress. I don't know that I've ever seen a bull offered out of him that wasn't high quality. The white heifer in this sale shows his value as a cow maker too.
It looks like a very deep offering. Many top herd sires have come out of these programs and I think there are several promising herd sire prospects this year. Fancy heifers too!
Here is a link to a page with some videos.
Congratulations to Grant and all the consignors for bringing out a great looking group of bulls and he ifers. And also for taking the time and expense to to measure these cattle. As a potential buyer, I really enjoyed being able to see BW,WW and sale-week weight as well as EPD's and ultrasound data.
I really look forward to seeing lot#6 when he arrives here in Quebec!!!
Thanks everyone for the nice comments about our sale offering. I thought this was the strongest set from top to bottom we have offered yet. The bulls averaged $4145 and the open heifers averaged $2520. I am not sure why our heifers were probably twice as good as the sale heifers we sold last year, but we did not have a stronger sale on them. That was made up by a strong bull sale. What was most gratifying to me, was that almost all the cattle sold to people sitting in the seats. We had over 150 viewers online of which 47 registered to bid. Only 7 head sold to internet buyers. Most of the bulls were either bought or bid on by commercial producers, and many of the bulls from $5000 to $8000 went to commercial herds. One Montana rancher purchased a bull from me 17 years ago. He said that his best cows today were grand daughters of that bull, so they decided that it was time to add more Shorthorn. He paid $5750 for a good bull and he said he thought he would have to had to pay more to get him. Our lot 15 bull at $7750 sold to a commercial herd in Manitoba. The runner-up bidder on our top selling bull at $8200 was a commercial producer and after the sale he told me he was wishing he had gone higher and had tried to get him bought. It was also interesting that the roans and whites were very popular with the commercial people. There were lots of other bulls to commercial herds over $5000 as well. I wrote on Facebook yesterday that yesterday may have been a day when the Shorthorn breed here in Southern Saskatchewan turned a significant corner. I was also impressed by the number of breeders of other breeds who either watched our sale online or emailed or phoned to find out how the sale went. It appears that interest here in Shorthorns is really gaining momentum. Stay tuned as we are already planning our sale for next year. We have a great calf crop hitting the ground this spring!
