I recently had a big calf born which started going over at the knees on about day 3, getting so bad that it hurt me to watch him walk.  Soooo, I used your fabulous search feature to see if anyone had posted a similar problem.  Lo & behold, our beloved Red had posted the same situation a few years ago & Terry suggested it may be navel ill & to treat with penicillin.  I've never had experience with this but thought treatment definitely wouldn't hurt him.  Treated with 5cc of long acting penicillin twice & now he's bouncing around the pasture with no hint of bowing over.  There is such a wealth of knowledge on this site and I'm so glad your here -- THANK YOU!

Glad you found what you were looking for, there is tons of great information on here.  We really need to catalog the most asked questions in a single FAQ thread.

Does anyone want to be appointed the Steer Planet librarian and help to do this?  PM me.

Hey LoveRedcows. I am glad you found that thread as Navel Ill is very suttle and easy to fix.

A word of advice here would be that you need to do that treatment for at least a week, I also assumed once they got to feeling better it was over with once, and it came right back. Give them a weeks worth of treatment, whether long acting or normal, and you will be amazed at to how they perform later on! You'd never know they had it if you fully get it treated early!!

Best of luck, now you know!!!

Thanks for the comment too by the way -- makes me smile!

Jason, I failed Librarian 101 in HS, sorry !! hehehehe
