cattlejunky, it may already state in your policy the 4wheeler was inelgible.  it might be time for an onsite review by both them and a competitor.  covering theft, especially if lodged in a locked barn might change matters.  i know it did for our cars being in a locked garage instead of outside at night.

 We used to use Anhydrous for fertilizer and had to stay up most nights regardless of weather watching for theives. Had them hide tanks in the woods if we were out at the moment so they wouldnt have to carry them back and forth as far if we had some. Chased plenty of them til the law caught up and took them to jail. Most came armed and this was all very close to our house. Some were doped up at the time, some werent .. one time had 2 guys run from the law into the woods on our farm only to come out the next day begging someone to call the cops with so many bug bites and sunburnt..it was quite funny they were from out of town and didn't realize the wonderful time one can have in a south alabama swap in July. Caught 2 one time when we were out looking hiding behind my horses thinking we couldnt see them and we had the dog with us that night and had him chase the horses with them holding onto their halters. We finally stopped using it although for almost a year after we stopped we could ride the fence lines and find butane tanks and such left behind. Crazy world these days.

Our insurance is with Farm Bureau, and a couple of years ago we got a notice that ATV's of any kind/use would no longer be covered under our farm policy. They only cover them under a seperate, specific policy...

I knock on wood when I say we've been lucky and haven't lost much to theft over the years. I have a couple of theories on that, as some of our neighbors have been hit repeatedly. Mostly that my schedule is very unpredictable, and the way we're situated here, anybody caught here would be pretty much trapped (or at least their vehicle would). In any case, we do try to be careful to keep things put away, but in the end, if somebody wants something bad enough, they're gonna take it...

We took the policy out in 2003.  I have the write up from the agent.  We wanted it to cover all farm related items and atv's.  The policy states that ATV's are covered under the farm policy if used for farm, which this one was. It is possible that they will cover it under our homeowners.  Our agent has not called back and I talked to him this am. I am not sure if State Farm was not requiring a seperate policy for 4-wheelers, but that was never brought up to us.  it states that if it is for off road use and used in the daily operation on the farm it is covered.  We will fight it.  Knabe, we are already on to getting new quotes and a better agent.  I have two coming tomorrow.  Its funny both of the agents I talked to today mentioned the seperate coverage for 4-wheelers.

We have a wireless driveway monitor that produces a loud buzz in the receiver, and it has worked well for us.  We are back a long lane, and I think what has really helped is our alarm system in the barn.  We have stickers on the barn door, and all the doors are equipped with sensors.  Also, we have a VERY loud external siren mounted to the top of the barn.  Even if someone breaks in, they would have to be REAL gutsy to stick around long enough to load-up equipment.  The system is monitored as well.  I think it is worth the money, and we can list it as farm expense on tax returns.

Zach- what is the drug that's causing the most problems in your area? I know years ago it was marijuana that was such a problem but it might be Oxycontin now.

Red, What is Oxycontin ? Is it another name for a more common drug ? Down here the meth deal is of epidimic proportions. It is made out of all kinds of stuff. It's no wonder it makes people look so bad that use it.

Shortdawg- Oxycotin is a really strong painkiller.  Meth, marijuana, and shrooms are the biggest drugs here in IL.  It's crazy how many meth labs there are around. I found three in just one of our fields two falls ago.  Our county has a special meth team.  We're one of the worst counties in the state for meth.  Super bad stuff.

I use oxycontin for my leg & back pain. Taken w/ care it is very effective. My doctor goes to great lengths to make sure it's not being abused or falling into the right hands. I'm very careful how I use it. For a last resort it's been a lifesaver for me.

We don't use any Anhydrous here in the hills, but, the Meth Lab operators will steal the Propane bottle from your gas grill, in a heartbeat.

people have been mugged leaving pharmacies with freshly filled oxycontin prescriptions.  i make sure that someone goes with my wife to pick-up mine.

I hope we find them also.  We are looking into a video camera system.  They just had Agcam advertised in one of our farm magazines.  I also want a driveway alarm.  We are about 300 yards from the road and I do not hear someome coming unless the dogs bark. Spent most of the yesterday with 2 insurance agents about switching coverages.  Our agent is coming today.  This was a wake up call for us.  I recommend you all look over your policies and see if you should up coverages or make some changes.  Our agent is working to get the 4 wheeler covered, we will see if he gets it done.
